My girlfriend and I were in town for a family get together the following day. We were not looking to spend a lot of money, since we were only going to be there overnight, and we wanted something clean and basic. The La Quinta in Paramus met our expectations. We paid $71.00 with the AAA rate (plus various taxes) and... more

Booked this hotel despite the bad reviews since they are pet friendly and we needed a reasonably priced hotel in the metro NY area. We stayed one night and had a room on the first floor (partially subterranean). The room was shabby - wallpaper barely attached to the wall, bathroom was dreary (but clean in their defense), and the bedding... more

We were very disappointed with our stay at this hotel. We were on the bottom floor, which smelled very musty and was dark and non-inviting. The doors and windows were very dirty and the general atmosphere was not what we hoped for. The area around the hotel is very confusing and busy, and did not make for an enjoyable or... more

...I was concerned about our stay because of the reviews we'd read. The funny smell some reviewers wrote, well I did notice that in the hotel lobby. We stayed there during the Westminster Kennel Club dog show, and although we were on the first floor, with some other pet owners -- it was ok. The room smelled and looked nice... more

My husband and I stayed here on a Saturday night. We had a room on the lower level and the reviewer was right, there was a smell. About 3:00 a.m. there were some kids in the hall because there was a soda machine near us. They were loud and knocked on our door several times waking us up asking us... more

My son and I stayed here for three nights. The hotel has smoking on the third floor, which can be bad or good depending upon your preferences. The bottom floor is below street level and smells musty. In addition, the key cards never worked each night when we returned to the hotel. Although the rooms are large, the desk chair... more

The hotel itself was fine. My issues were with the incompetence of the staff. We had reservations for 2 nights. On the morning after the first night, I told the clerk we weren't sure if we were staying the second night. He proceeded to cancel our reservation, and told us he'd book us a new one. Well, he didn't, and... more

We were coming back from a 5 day stay in Atlantic City and had made reservations to stay at the Howard Johnson. Paramus itself it a very busy place and confusing to people not used to high traffic areas and one way roads with turns around to get back on the other side. The Howard Johnson on the outside was... more
