Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Grand Summit Hotel made a quick overnight NYC trip perfect. The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas. The staff was friendly and always helpful. The super clean and elegant rooms are amazing and very comfortable to stay in. There is complementary self parking which is next to the hotel (about a 30 second walk) and complimentary WiFi which is always helpful. We will always be returning to this hotel whether we visit New Jersey or New York City.

Avoid. Hotel is under massive renovation. I am sure will be great when done...but for now, no restaurant, breakfast is from a food truck out front, lobby frigid. Rooms ok. Wait for reno to complete.

I’ve lived near this hotel all of my life and have been at many functions there. Having recently moved, I decided to stay for a trip home in September. I was shocked to see how the hotel has deteriorated. Our room was awful and poorly maintained, the air conditioning vent was filthy, housekeeping never attended to the room. Complaints to management were ignored. The staff seems generally unhappy and unfriendly. The new owners clearly have no respect for this long standing business and its guests.

The hotel is being renovated so it is in a bit of a transition. Some things are very new and others very dated. Our room while small was newly redone and very nice and clean with so many options for charging ALL your devices. My one complaint was that the housekeeping staff started cleaning the room next to ours around 8:30am (which seems much earlier than other hotels we have stayed at). They didn't seem to care in the least that guests might be still asleep as they banged around cleaning the room and talking loudly to each other. We would have really enjoyed another 30-60 minutes of sleep.

Zero Stars. It has delusions of grandeur claims to be 3 star but has NO AMENITIES. Seriously overpriced. Restaurant is Closed. Pool is Closed. No phone in rooms no way to contact the front desk staff who were unhelpful in person. Rooms are dated and basic. Bathroom steams up as there is no window or fan so steam gets into bedroom. They claim that renovations are underway but there is no evidence of that. It is the Only hotel in Summit but it no longer deserves to be called a hotel. It's a bad BnB. The only nice thing I can say is beds are comfortable and staff (other than front desk) were friendly.

A large extended family group of 25+ stayed at The Summit last weekend and we could not have been happier. Desiree at the front desk, a few days before we arrived, warmly assisted in putting rooms close together. (She she was wonderful the days we were there too, easily linking reservations and helping two of us who decided to add on an extra night.) The hotel is beautiful, historic, well located, has comfy beds and comes with breakfast. One night our group ordered pizza and Michelle (the evening front desk person) made sure we had tables and space. Our whole group loved this hotel!

I highly recommend The Grand Summit Hotel, the accommodations were excellent and the staff was professional and kind. Michelle at the front desk was especially helpful to me since this was my first time staying there. She made me feel extremely comfortable and could not have been anymore welcoming! Rita Pulcini

Having been at the Summit Hotel pre-renovation, in what was a broken down and dilapidated and honestly fairly repulsive room I was looking forward to returning after hearing about the renovations thinking that maybe someone finally got around to restoring the Grand Old Lady to her former glory. Summit is a beautiful little affluent town and having something gorgeous and traditional is exactly what this town deserves. Instead we were treated to no more kitchen services, the restaurant is closed (but free continental breakfasts that resemble what you buy in bulk at Costco). They do provide a handful of takeout menus and they're happy to let a delivery service deliver to your hotel room (so much for security) With the restaurant/tavern closed they have what they describe as a "satellite bar" that opens at 5PM, but that only includes super cheap Barefoot wines by the bottle and an obscene amount of cinnamon whisky. The furniture throughout the hotel and our room was super cheap prompting my wife to ask me if they bought everything mismatched at a furniture liquidation outlet- seriously even the ballroom has a little seating area I suppose for catered events but the furniture is hot red futons a 19 year old would put in their dorm room. The shower takes 10 minutes plus to get hot water, and improves slightly if you run the sink at the same time- but with cheap, off smelling complimentary shampoo and conditioner, you're better off taking advantage of their relationship with local Gym Equinox where the showers are fully stacked with the ample collection of Kiehl's soaps and body washers (and immediate hot water) My best description of the Summit Hotel these days is to describe it as a one of the lower end Hilton Garden Inns, but then again, you can at least find a wrapped sandwich at a Hilton Garden Inn.

Stayed here on Feb 14th, 2023. The hotel wasn’t busy. The parking lot was not full. I was given a room that was oddly shaped, like a cramped triangle. The only part of the room that was normal was the bathroom. When I sat at the desk- my back was against the entertainment center. I couldn’t open my suitcase at the same time I had the ironing board out. I travel to this area for business and I expect to have a room that I can work in. I have been to this hotel previously and was given a normal shaped room. When I asked to be given a normal room, the front desk told me that I had to take the triangle rooms m because I booked the room on a discount site (I saved $10 with the discount.). Summit Grand if you don’t want people to use a coupon code then don’t offer it. Needless to say, not coming back. I would rather stay a a hotel that treats their guests equally.

Grand entryway. Absolutely Baltic in the hallway (and on entering our room). Breakfast in the HAT Bar was just this side of depressing. Nothing luxury about it. Some over heated (and so clumped together) scrambled eggs an cereals and bread. And it was so cold down there we could not stay for more than five minutes. Bed was a good size and the shower quite nice, though the bedding was awful (no duvet cover, the duvet is merely placed between two sheets (must be easier for housekeeping?1) so it shifts around during the night. Awful heating system.
