We stayed at Ashbourne House for 2 nights in early December 2009. Our stay was perfect, the room was exquisite (we had the presidential room), the service was second to none and the gardens and pool area where outstanding, especially as i have a personal preference for white flowers - and that is all they have in the garden! Nothing... more

The attention to detail paid by the two owners make this guest house a true gem. The quality of service, the friendly way it is delivered, and the feeling that nothing is too much trouble make this a very welcoming place to spend a few nights. Set just off the main road in Franschoek - the location is very convenient.... more

If Franschhoek is the jewel of the winelands, then Ashbourne House is the gem of guest houses. Immaculately maintained internally and externally, it is clean, convivial, has character, and most importantly; owners Russell and John are most genial hosts. Nothing is too much trouble. Home cooked bread, cakes, and biscuits (ask for the recipe for the cookies!) complement the excellent... more

Flew to Cape Town and drove to Franschhoek. We arrived slightly early but were warmly greeted by hosts Russell and John. We were shown to our room which was modern, and tastefully furnished. Breakfast including homemade muesli and bread was served in an intimate dinning area. Unfortunately, we only had 2 nights in Franschhoek we could have stayed a lot... more

We have stayed at Ashbourne House now three times, each time for a longer stay than the last. We always have the same room on the 'upper deck' which is extremely roomy and beautifully furnished (as is the whole of Ashbourne House). Breakfast is excellent with homemade bread. Always a great treat. There is super swimming pool with ample sun... more

We had a large downstairs room that was fantastic. The decor was excellent, everything from the quality of the curtains to the beautiful bathroom. The pool was great to relax by and we felt very welcome. Russell is quite an activist and keen to help you with suggestions of where to eat and visit. It is only a short walk... more

Nicely appointed, updated rooms. Helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. Only a short walk to the town center where restaurants are located and a short drive to most of the wineries. more

All the other reviews have said it all. However, we were disappointed with the room we booked (no. 5 - balcony room). OK, it was in the cheapest price bracket, but for almost £100 per couple for B&B, it was a tiny bedroom with a very small ante-room. I believe the other rooms are bigger, so pay the extra. Russell... more

We spent three nights at Ashbourne House and although we enjoyed it, it was not as good as some of the other accommodation we stayed in during our holiday in South Africa. The location is good, although the short walk home from the restaurants was very dark and slighly scary! The rooms were comfortable and the bathrooms were lovely. Breakfast... more

Had the good fortune to stay at Ashbourne House during our trip to Cape wine country. Staff was gracious, caring and knowledgeable. Excellent suggestions on where to eat (Bon Vivant was terrific) and which vineyards to visit. Breakfast was a dining experience. The room was 5* - understated decor with plush comfort. Short walk into town center. Can't wait to... more
