We have stayed at Ashbourne House now three times, each time for a longer stay than the last. We always have the same room on the 'upper deck' which is extremely roomy and beautifully furnished (as is the whole of Ashbourne House). Breakfast is excellent with homemade bread. We had a large downstairs room that was fantastic. The decor was excellent, everything from the quality of the curtains to the beautiful bathroom. The pool was great to relax by and we felt very welcome. Russell is quite an activist and keen to help you with suggestions of where to eat and visit. It is only a short walk... more

All the other reviews have said it all. However, we were disappointed with the room we booked (no. 5 - balcony room). OK, it was in the cheapest price bracket, but for almost £100 per couple for B&B, it was a tiny bedroom with a very small ante-room. I believe the other rooms are bigger, so pay the extra. We spent three nights at Ashbourne House and although we enjoyed it, it was not as good as some of the other accommodation we stayed in during our holiday in South Africa. Had the good fortune to stay at Ashbourne House during our trip to Cape wine country. Staff was gracious, caring and knowledgeable. Excellent suggestions on where to eat (Bon Vivant was terrific) and which vineyards to visit. Breakfast was a dining experience. The room was 5* - understated decor with plush comfort.
