We go to Capitan for an annual event and stay at the Smokey Bear Motel each year. It has gone down hill in cleanliness each year. You would be better off staying in Ruidoso and driving to Capitan, than staying at the Smokey Bear Motel. There are new owners and they don't know how to clean a room, plus the furniture is left over from the fifties! more
