We stayed two nights at the Branding Iron while taking the Cumbres & Toltec train, and it was quite satisfactory. The motel isn't expensive, & the rooms were clean, large, and freshly decorated. There was some occasional other room noise (typical in motels, I think) but it wasn't disturbing. The staff was friendly, the beds were comfortable, and there was... more

Showed up the afternoon before our C&T train ride with my wife, two young kids, dog, and an emailed copy of my credit card confirmed reservation in hand - made eight months previous! Was told at check-in, "Sorry, we cancelled your reservation five days ago. We have no rooms." With "Chama Days" that weekend, there wasn't a satisfactory room available... more

We were taking the 8:30am train through the Cumbress Pass and decided to stay in Chama so we didn't have to drive 2 hours from Taos the morning of the train ride. After looking at the options, we decided to try the Branding Iron. I have no complaints, the room was spacious and clean as was the bathroom. It was... more

I spent the night here to prepare to ride the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad. The hotel is a two story motel with clean rooms and very pleasant staff. Cable TV and WiFi are available, although the WiFi was erratic during my stay. The restaurant has been closed for a few years, so you must travel about 3/4 mile to... more

The staff very unfriendly and unwilling to help in any way. The restaurant has been closed for 2 years, they didn't bother to tell us that until we got there. They are a mile from any other eating establishments or shops and no public transportation in Chama. Hope you drive there. We came in on the train. Also don't expect... more

The okays: fairly clean room; a/c works well; internet connection quickly; daily clean towels; easy check-in. The problems: squeaky floors, request a room upstairs if you are a lite-sleeper; really old furnishings; restaaurant next-door is closed but you are given a card for 10% off at a downtown restaurant (Fosters); no continental breakfastthe sheets did not fit a king bed;... more

Compared to the other lodging in Chama, this was a very "standard" hotel. Most other lodging was more like cabins and lodge type. This was just a hotel. It was clean and spacious, the people were very nice and helpful. The only problem I had with it was the noise. You could hear people walking to their rooms on the... more

We stayed here 2 nights because we went on the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railway trip from Antonito to Chama (took bus to Antonito). The room was very large and cozy. The wireless internet service was very poor though...I think they were having problems. They had 2 default settings and only the one worked with my laptop for some reason.... more

We stayed at this motel for 2 nights to do the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Rail trip. It provided a place to sleep, but not much else. It looks nice from the outside, but the furnishings are at least 30 years out of date. Despite white walls, the room seemed very dark. We were disappointed that the restaurant was closed... more
