I chose Rancho Manzana primarily because it was walking distance to Rancho de Chimayo, where we wanted to have dinner (the Hacienda de Chimayo was full). It's a perfect example of how you have to take a chance to find a gem. When we arrived I thought we'd made a huge mistake, but after two nights, we loved the place. Jody, the owner, is a designer and of course it shows in every detail. Not faux-Southwest artefacts everywhere, just authentic design. It's not perfect - there is almost no place to put your clothes except for a small armoire, and no screens on the windows means keeping them shut until lights out. But we took full advantage of the large, private decks and beautiful grounds, enjoyed a bottle of wine at a table by a lily pond, and talked to Jody over two fantastic breakfasts. The two cottages are similar, each has a queen bed, reading lights, sitting area, no TV or phone, lovely bathrooms (full length mirror!), but one has an extra window and gets more light.
