We started going to the Kit Carson in 1996 and it was in pretty good shape. The rooms are pretty large for a budget priced hotel and they have a few amenities like a coffee pot. As the years passed we noticed that the rooms were getting more and more rundown and they didn't seem to be doing any updating. The last time we went in 2001, the beds were in terrible condition and the carpets and bed spreads were awful. The straw that really broke the camel's back was when we were there one winter and the heating system made the awful LOUD NOISES all night long - pop, pop, crack, pop. I didn't get a wink of sleep that night, and with more than 400 miles to drive the next morning, I was NOT happy.

On the upside, they do allow pets, which is important because we travel with two cats. And their restaurant (when it is open), is very good. But does not stay open long enough to accommodate the traveler.

My suggestion is, if you can go a different way. Do it. This motel... more
