We didn't have plans to stay at this hotel, but were late passing through Gallup and needed somewhere to stay. this was recommended in our Lonely Planet guide book (very dubious about this book now). Stayed in the Marx Brothers Suite - clean. read the review about bedbugs - was totally NOT our experience. Charming, quiet and clean. We had two bedrooms and shared one bathroom. Worked well. The rooms are dark and creepy. The electrical outlets were not adequate. The decor was tired. We had a view of the dumpster (even though the hotel was not busy, and we had reservations). Followed the Lonely Plant Guide to this one and weren't too disappointed. Stayed in motel style room over from the Hotel and was able to park outside room. Breakfast next morning was excellent and room was dated but pretty clean and acceptable for the price. You get the history with the place and El Rancho has been the sleeping place... more

We had the Robert Taylor room - good size, balcony. There are a few inconveniences - only one 3 prong outlet in the room and the TV was plugged in there. Bathroom was teeny and NO outlets (So no way to dry hair/use electric razor). The room had an odd smell . .and we had to keep it open as... more
