We stayed there on our way to the Grand Canyon. Just happened to see signs on the way and thought it would be something to show the kids. We were given the Jimmy Stewart room which had a small balcony overlooking the front parking lot. The room had an odd odor and the bathroom was substandard but we were tired... more

We didn't have plans to stay at this hotel, but were late passing through Gallup and needed somewhere to stay. this was recommended in our Lonely Planet guide book (very dubious about this book now). The reception area was impressive, spacious and luxurious. with helpful pleasant staff, and the restaurant had great food, very friendly staff and a nice atmosphere.... more

Stayed in the Marx Brothers Suite - clean. read the review about bedbugs - was totally NOT our experience. Charming, quiet and clean. We had two bedrooms and shared one bathroom. Worked well. Ate supper and breakfast at the hotel restaurant. It was delicious! Service was leisurely. Bar was quirky, in a good way. I don't understand anyone complaining about... more

I have stayed at El Rancho quite a few times between 1995-2001 while traveling back and forth to visit my mom in Phoenix. She never liked it much as the bathroom mirror was too high for her to see. I, however, insisted that we stay here because it was historic and had character. The restaurant was adequate. Tonight, I called... more

The rooms are dark and creepy. The electrical outlets were not adequate. The decor was tired. We had a view of the dumpster (even though the hotel was not busy, and we had reservations). The pool is not heated and was not warm enough to swim in - even in August, if you can believe that! Nearby train noise filled... more

Read all the reviews and found some of the input made us a little hesitant to try this. DON'T PASS THIS ONE UP!! My hubby and I stayed with our 10 year old son who LOVES old western movies. We had read that the staff was rude, etc.....but found NONE of that to be true. While traveling thru to Carlsbad... more

My adult daughter & I drove from Los Angeles to Dallas. I chose this hotel for our first night on the road, because of its historic nature. The room was clean as was the small bath; but it had poor lighting (for reading), and it did not have the basic, modern amenities (hair dryer, coffeepot, internet) that many recently built... more

Followed the Lonely Plant Guide to this one and weren't too disappointed. Stayed in motel style room over from the Hotel and was able to park outside room. Breakfast next morning was excellent and room was dated but pretty clean and acceptable for the price. You get the history with the place and El Rancho has been the sleeping place... more

We had the Robert Taylor room - good size, balcony. There are a few inconveniences - only one 3 prong outlet in the room and the TV was plugged in there. Bathroom was teeny and NO outlets (So no way to dry hair/use electric razor). The room had an odd smell . .and we had to keep it open as... more

..We stayed at the elrancho hotel in Gallup N,M on may 2nd 2009. We were travelling along the mother road and all the guide books reccommend a stay here... as soon as you walk in the foyer you can sense / smell the history... old westen style furniture and pics of movie stars from bygone eras adorn the walls...
