We selected a range of different lodges for our four week tour in Southern Africa, and the tented safari in Chobe National Park was the most basic, and cheapest. These are real tents - two person tents without any ablutions. The camp itself has one chemical toilet, and a bush shower. One does not venture out of the tent once the fires are out, and an emergency pot is provided - in case.
The food was really good, better than many proper 3 or 4 star lodges we stayed at. The advantage of staying in the Chobe National Park is that one gets to spend just that little bit more time both evening and morning in the reserve.
On arrival we were given a river cruise, which was really wonderful, seeing not just elephant, hippo and crocodiles, but seeing some interactions too. The pity of the game park however is that there are a large number of vehicles in it, and on one lion chase, I counted 17 vehicles. That of course is the problem with public parks.
