An absolutely extraordinarily personalised experience that achieved the perfect balance between companionship, knowledge & friendship, without blurring any boundaries. Food superb, water-based game viewing, spectacular helicopter game viewing. Elephants within the camp were unforgettable -a must have for all future visits.

This was our first ever safari camp experience and we thoroughly enjoyed the "game drives" done by boat. Although most safaris were by water we also went on a walking safari with our very well informed guide, Jacob. This was a totally new experience and whilst the thought may have been scary, we felt safe at all times. We saw... More

Flew from the Savuti camp to Eagle Island camp to spend a few days there as well. The difference between this camp and Savuti is that this camp is on the Delta so you game spot off boats, and not game spotting vehicles. Again, like before at Savuti camp, we were met by all the staff from the Management down... More

Two or three days at Eagle Island is a MUST in your Botswana safari experience. Managers Chantelle, Jacques and IT ( the king of paradise) make you feel like they are welcoming you in their home. The entire staff is friendly and nice, the accomodation are great and the Delta wildlife is amazing. A very different experience from land based... More

Our second trip to Botswana, as much as for the people as the fauna. This was the first of the 3 Orient Express camps we stayed at. The Delta is a fantasic place to visit and this lodge was very upmarket and beautifully located. Very caring staff, excellent facilities and delicious food. It is expensive and we would be right... This was part of a trip which included the three Orient Express lodges in the order of Khwai River Lodge, Eagle Island Lodge and then Savute Elephant Lodge, staying three nights in each. This water based lodge was great - and so again was our guide John. The rooms were slightly older here and did not have the fixed wooden... More

The outings were in boats, not vehicles, and so the wildlife sightings were different. More hippos, elephants, lots of birds. The 35 minute helicopter ride that is included gives a good overview of the area, with lots of game-spotting. And don't miss the Eagle Island Bar, reported to be one of the "10 most romantic bars in the world." Well,... More

A short stay at Eagle Camp exposed up to close up encounters with elephants, hippos and birdlife - a very different experience to other land based game reserves in Africa. Very knowledgeable guides with great hospitality and food - the breakfast tray with fresh coffee and warms muffins was a treat at such an early hour and the escorted trips... More

We had four friends join us in Johannesburg for the weekend and we all went up to Botswana and stayed at orient Express Eagle island camp. Thank you for your comments about our food and we are sorry you were disappointed. We have alerted both the Food & Beverage Manager and the Camp Chef and are actively reviewing the menu. Rather than changing the lunch menu daily, we offer a wide selection of food and drink throughout the day. We have found that guests like to... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hidden from the world, deep within Botswana's Okavango Delta, is the paradise we call Eagle Island Camp. Situated on the island of Xaxaba and surrounded by Illala Palms, the camp overlooks a surrounding lagoon fed by the tranquil waterways of the Delta. The area offers exceptionally high quality wildlife viewing with prolific birdlife and mammal sightings. It is also the site of one of the most romantic bars in the world, the Fish Eagle Bar, as voted by New York Times. The camp offers a cool retreat from the African sun and is shaded by a canopy of indigenous trees. Xaxaba is one of the Delta's most pristine natural locations, a region of myriad waterways, palm-treed islands and vast flood plains. Bird and animal life in this region is prolific. The camp offers game viewing by mokoro (traditional dugout canoe), motorised boats and a 14-seater Sundowner cruiser. ... more   less
