We had purchased a 99.00 weekend deal from deal chicken. By the time the weekend was over we wished we had chickened out. I realized it was camping but We have camped in bare cabins that were a 5 star hotel compared to this. My husband and I visited this resort when Fontanas were first opening it. Although it was... I purchased 2 "deals" for $125 ........WHAT A MISTAKE!!!!!! This must have been some place when it was built in 1928 as a family lodge. Rich, the owner is a nice man...but his "resort" is in sad, sad shape. Roofs leaking...outdated everything...insect invested.....the "cabins" are cheaply constructed and are in need of major repairs. I can't imagine the overhead here based... More

Some people get the wrong idea of what "glamping" is. Glamorous should not be implied but camping is. Hilltop Lodge is in a beautiful location with owner/hosts that you can't beat. We spent 2 days (just got back home) and loved it. Rich and Rhonda did a wonderful job of making us feel welcome, more like being with family than... More

We fell for the $135 "special deal" & since my husband spent lots of time here when it was owned by the Haut family he was excited to see it again. What a dump! This place is filthy, unkept, smelly & the grounds are a disaster. The bathroom sink was all rusted, didn't dare look in the shower.....carpeting was horrible... More

We bought a deal through LivingSocial. I called the "resort" two days before and said I would be there by noon and if it was a problem to please let me know. We arrived at noon, no one was around. We waited for two hours for someone to show up! When the guy finally showed up I said that I... More

Pulling in through the woods, this place seemed like it could be really fantastic. We were thinking maybe it would be this fantastical hideaway deep in the woods like the website described. As soon as any buildings came into view our hopes were instantly dashed. I'm sure this property was fantastic in its hayday, maybe the 1930's or 40's, but... More

Looking at previous reviews, I would say they are right on. The place is worn down and in need of repair. The sliding screen in our room was ripped. The walls were marred and needed painting. The bedding was clean, but there was a hole in one comforter. The locks on the door were difficult to use. The food was... More

Im not a prima-donna, but a budget conscious traveler/camper. We were shocked +appalled- did not stay. Groupon should NOT promote this place. It was absolutely unacceptable. It was obvious the property had seen better days - run down, unkept, junk lying around. Owner Rich in the Lodge bar collected the tax, gave us keys then a dining room tour. Lodge dng... More

As other reviewers have stated, Owners Richard and Rhonda are gracious hosts. The actual lodge building is made of redwood and is a huge and beautiful building nestled in the woods. Lots of interesting antiques, in the lodge, animal heads adorning the walls over the humungous fireplace (which was lit in the evening). There was a cozy seating area around... More
