We just left the hotel on its complimentary shuttle to LaGuardia. The hotel is just fine. We were registered efficiently and cheerfully. Yes, there was a light, lingering cigarette smell in the hallway, but it's pretty clear the place is being refurbished and it may take awhile for the final remnants of smoking days to vanish.
