The purpose of this review is to let people know that the lodge is operating under a new management company. They took over on the first of November and the lodge never ceased operations through the changeover, despite what some sites have said to the contrary. I did not stay there, I stopped for information and a couple of cold... More

I know this lodge is closing but i thought I would write a review in its defence since there have been so many negative reorts. We stayed in a family room and it was very comfortable. Yes the facility was old and needed updating but the staff were very nice and the food was acceptable. Maybe because we were part... More

We stayed here for 3 days. Our rooms were in an older cabin that was comfortable but needed a lot of updating. We had a patio but no chairs to sit! The lighting was very poor. We did enjoy seeing elephants and cows right outside though. The staff was very nice and made every effort to be helpful. We had... More

The Palmwag Concession As you may be aware, negotiations around the Palmwag Concession have been ongoing for well over a year now. This has been quite a marathon, involving many discussions and many months of lengthy and arduous deliberations. We are happy to announce that in late August 2012, Wilderness Safaris was eventually awarded this concession for a period of... More

We arrived late in the day with 2 vehicles, 5 kids and no reservation, so were fortunate to be granted the only remaining camp site and it was adequate. However the lady at reception could not have been less friendly if she had tried, totally unwelcoming and charmless. She changed our mood quite abruptly from one of excitement at our... More

In spite of not having a reservation and the campsite being fully booked, we were squeezed into an overflow area which was perfectly adequate. On arrival the lodge itself is quite surprising in that it is an oasis in a very arid landscape. There are 2 swimming pools, a pool bar and restaurant. The lodge offers reasonably priced game drives... More

The lodge sits in a beautiful location overlooking an area that has elephants coming through occasionally. The bungalow style rooms away from the main lodge area are great places to view birds and other wildlife. That being said, I was very disappointed in the state of the rooms, quality of the food, and most of all the completely lackadaisical attitude... More

Thank you very much for the comments received. Palmwag Lodge is 30 years old and unfortunately over the past year, we have not been able to invest as much in the lodge as we would have preferred. The lease for Palmwag expired early last year and we are still negotiating with the government regarding this lease. We believe the Palmwag... More

Stayed one night and it was plenty. Had booked two identical rooms but one had wrong bed configuration and was not acceptable. Could not resolve with staff and had to go to manager to finally resolve issue and change rooms. The rooms were clean and big. Dinner was great. The staff keep on ensuring if we are comfortable and my partner jokingly said that he'll like a cuppa coffee to be served in the room before breakfast... And true enough we received a pot of hot coffee at 7am!

We stayed here for two nights in September 2011 while on our Honeymoon. The Lodge is very cool with amazing views and great sunsets. Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Palmwag Lodge is one of Namibia’s oldest and most popular tourist destinations and is renowned for its idyllic location amongst rustling palm trees, spectacular scenery and convenient location in the vast Palmwag Concession with its host of desert-adapted wildlife, including the largest free-roaming population of desert-adapted black rhino in Africa. Other species in the area include lion, desert-adapted elephant, Hartmann’s mountain zebra, gemsbok, giraffe and springbok. The broader area is also well known for the unique culture of the semi-nomadic Himba people. The lodge, situated along the banks of the ephemeral Uniab River, boasts a wide variety of accommodation options, from comfortable family units and Meru-style tents to thatched bungalows and a lively campsite. A swimming pool, restaurant and cosy bar complete the facilities. This stark and remote destination is easily accessible and an array of guided or independent excursions are available, including morning and afternoon game drives, full-day excursions into Palmwag Concession (with prior booking), nature walks, sleep-outs and Himba cultural excursions. ... more   less
