This place is absolute MAGIC. We chose the full-board option in a riverside chalet, and it was one of our favorite experiences we’ve ever had in Africa. The staff takes care of everything, so you can just enjoy your safari. Breakfast is served early so that you can get into the park when the animals are active and the light is perfect for photos. After a few hours in the park, you’ll return for lunch and time to relax by the pool or watch the wildlife from one of Wildlife Camp’s two hides. In the evening you’ll head back into the park for another game drive, and stay there after dark for a night drive (which is a great opportunity to see animals that aren’t active in the day, like leopards.) The restaurant overlooks a water hole, so there was always wildlife around - elephants, warthogs, antelope, baboons, and monkeys galore! The pool area also overlooks the Luangwa River so you’re likely to see wildlife while you’re taking a dip. The cottages are lovely, with comfortable beds, new mosquito nets, and fans (no AC and it was definitely hot when we were there in November, but worth it!). Expect some load shedding, as you would most places in Africa. The food was delicious and we never went hungry - they bring snacks for guests during game drives as well. Staff will even pick up your laundry each morning and return it in the evening when they turn down your bed. I can’t say enough good things about the staff - everyone was so kind and helpful. Our guide for the week was Lemis and we adored him! He is extremely knowledgeable and clearly loves his job and is excited to help guests have incredible wildlife sightings. We also took a walking safari with Jarvis - highly recommend so you can see the little things too miss when you’re driving! South Luangwa National Park is a hidden gem, with so much wildlife and far fewer crowds than other parks. Every game drive is different so nothing is guaranteed, but we saw a pack of 20 wild dogs, a lioness with three tiny cubs, three leopards at night, lions walking right next to our vehicle, a massive herd of buffalo, and so much more. We met another guest there who is in her 80s and comes to Wildlife Camp for a month every year, and we can completely see why. We can’t wait to come back!…
