Our family has stayed at Kafunta River Lodge 7 or 8 times over the last 7 years. We have visited in July and May. We have found the lodge to be an excellent place to experience the fantastic wildlife in the South Luangwa National Park. We consider this our home in the South Luangwa valley, although we have stayed at... more

This is the fourth time I have stayed here - slightly out of peak season. Kafunta is both very relaxing and exciting - all at the same time. While I was there this visit - a sabbatical treat - we had elephants walking through the lodge every day. From the terrace where you usually eat breakfast and dinner, we saw... more

The lodge is placed on an unique spot with a great view and wild life around. The rooms are beautifull and spacy. However, Anke, the owner runs this facility as a german camp. No flexibility. The staff is not smiling as all other Zambesians do. Depending upon your guide they do not pay attention to the guests, just talk to... more

– Kufunta – absolutely wonderful! The warm and friendly atmosphere generated by Ron, Anke and Mario (the current Manager)permeated throughout all the staff, and provided the guests with a really “feel good” factor.. It was a wonderful camp, great accommodation , very good food and the view over the flood plains was beautiful, with quite a lot of wildlife. One... more

Did a 5 night stay here (3 at the main lodge and 2 at their remote bush camp - 2.5 hr very bumpy drive away - but worth it). Both places were superb for wildlife viewing and both offered different experiences. Main Lodge ---------------- Didn't have to go too far to find wildlife at all! Saw leopard on our first... more

We spent 4 days at Kafunta lodge and 3 days at their Island Bush Camp. The organisation is outstanding, we had the best holiday ever. The staff are hyper efficient, the guides very professional, everyone at Kafunta is going the extra mile for the tourists. The accomodation, both at Kafunta and the Bush Camp is excellent, and the food is... more

We booked to stay at this lodge as the "splurge" part of our trip to Zambia in July 2008. We booked 3 nights in a luxury suite for ourselves and a standard chalet for our children next door. Before Kafunta, we spent 3 nights at a neighbouring (less expensive) lodge where we had a ball. (Friendly staff, great food, wonderful... more

We stayed at Kafunta River Lodge for 5 nights in May 2007. Our stay was pretty pleasant, except one afternoon, we found that our chalet had a pretty big hole in the wall near the roof, which let in a snake!! The staff was very prompt in removing the snake from our room and sealing the hole in the wall.... more

We have frequently stayed at this place since it opened in 1998 and it just seems to get better each time. Situated in the Management Area just a short drive over the river from the National Park. There are eight normal twin bedded thatched chalets and two more deluxe ones on stilts. The staff are mostly well above average in attention... more
