Makasutu is a really great place and the owners really did an amazing job with creating a place of solitude. However I went there with my girlfriend and her sister for a drink and had a really bad experience with their manager there.

You should know that we are locals and wanted to check the place out so that we could come back and stay for a weekend one time. We were made to feel VERY uncomfortable, presumably because we weren't white and probably couldn't afford to stay there. I was almost denied entry at the gate in a very humiliating manner. At some point during my exchange with the manager, after I'd asked if we could simply stay and have a drink, he said "what benefit is it of ours as a business to let you stay and have a drink, or show you around?" I was really very disappointed by this, and I hope the owners read this and rectify this problem.

Mandina lodge is very considerate to the environment - I wish they'd be as kind to the locals. more
