High Peaks is a very nice place in great little town. BUT please just be careful. There is a TON of slippery spots. Once the water drips to sidewalk and freezes........it's an ice rink. I took a nasty fall outside the lower level of hotel entrance. Extremely slick. Reported to hotel. I asked them to file a report. I was offered a bag for ice when I went to front desk. Not sure what protocol is for follow up in a situation like this, but it was non-existent. Take your time getting around.

Before you book, note it's 3 buildings that are separate (they all have lake views). What I was not told was that they differed by price. Wish I had known that in the first place. I called the hotel directly to book and the person at the front desk was friendly and accommodating. Though they could not provide our group a block, we were able to book 3 rooms close to one another. The hotel emailed the confirmations to me. Although the person assisting me told me about the 3 buildings, he did not mention a cost differential nor that we would be separated from the group. When we checked in, I signed the paper work and was told of a security deposit that would be refunded (I figured that was the price differential). We ended up in different buildings but I was told they are right across the street from one another, which wasn't a big deal; same view and they are legitimately across the street from each other. When I got my credit card statement, it was a couple hundred more than the email confirmations indicated. When I called, I was again told this was security deposit and it would be refunded within a week. I called back a week later, and a different employee addressed my bill. They said that it was not a refundable deposit, rather that my room was a different rate than the other 2 that I booked because it was in another building. I was confused since I booked all 3 at once and wasn't told they were different prices. Then, he said the disconnect/different cost was because I booked my particular room with a travel agent (I did not). He then asked "Did you sign the paperwork at the check-in" and I said yes- and his response was "well I am sorry you didn't read it carefully". His attitude was a departure to the friendly people I dealt with in making the reservation. Had I known my building was more costly, I would have booked the more economical option, because the rooms were similar with the same beautiful view. The room I was in, though right on the lake (which was partially frozen), was dated. There was mold on the bathroom caulking and the duvets were stained; these are things I would generally give a pass on, but not for a couple hundred more. Perhaps in the summer this location across the street makes it more valuable, but not in the winter.

Came for a hockey tournament to this hotel that participats in this. Watched the whole time, rooms seperated, rude manager, asked for meeting room to use, given tiny area with not enough seating. Just a rude place and wilk never come back again.

We spent Thanksgiving at High Peaks Resort. The staff was great, our room had a view of Mirror Lake and mountains in the distance. Thanksgiving buffet was bountiful, offering a variety of delicious options. Although several stores along Main Street were closed around the holiday, we enjoyed walking downtown and patronized all of the cute shops that were open. An overall wonderful experience staying at High Peaks and the surrounding area.

I needed to get out of Dodge and have a change of venue. I've stayed several times at their Lakehouse, but this was my first stay in the actual hotel. Everything was clean, bright and the staff was friendly. Despite a large hockey event being held in town with a large group at the hotel, they must have setup a separate dining room, as I never knew they were there.

The absolute best play to stay in Lake Placid!! Beats Mirror Lake Inn by far. We went with other couples and had a great time. The staff is amazing, Tony the bartender and all the wait staff. The rooms were big and very comfortable. It's a great place to go with friends and family. Hung out in a lounge playing games, brought our own snacks. Can't wait to return-a 20 out 0f 10.

Overpriced for a dated building and poor facilities. Like everything in this town, they charge for the view and feel they need to put forth appropriate effort. Shower was cold in the morning the and the indoor pool was a good 5 degrees too cold to be comfortable, and the hot tub more like the temperature the pool should’ve been. The room on the 5th floor had an okay view but overlooked the covered outdoor pool. The doors were incredibly think—a steady draft came from the halllway into our room which meant we could hear everything going on out there. Likewise the bathroom door had a good 2-inch crack underneath, which was a bit weird. We were greeted with a giant dead bug on the bathroom floor on arrival—really goes well with that champagne, lol. Great location and parking was nice but this place is charging Ritz prices for a very outdated, dingy interior. Would not recommend.

Room Tip: Don’t go to the Black Bear restaurant across the street. Medicare at best, like everything else...

We were given a two night three-day stay as a wedding gift. We were able to bring our golden retriever and the three of us had a wonderful time. The staff is very welcoming and knowledgeable the room was clean nicely put together the bathroom was great and we had a balcony view of the outdoor pool and grounds around it. We use the indoor pool and hot tub each night and we're alone it was a wonderful experience. After we ate dinner in town we had a nightcap at the dancing bear and headed for the indoor pool and hot tub. The grounds are beautiful and we were able to take the dog down to the beach. There is coffee in the lobby which we took advantage of every day but there's also a little coffee shop right off the upper parking lot so we could get our second cup of coffee without having to go out into the village. Also the residential area right behind the resort is a great place to walk your dog and not have to worry about too much traffic. We'd recommend this place to everyone with a dog and also everyone else that likes dogs. However if you don't like dogs find someplace else because you probably don't like much.

We checked in on a Wednesday (10/11-10/13)afternoon and stayed two nights. The lady who greeted us was very friendly and informative. She checked us in quickly and told us to come back after we were settled for a glass of welcome champagne. We were in the main building and our room was very nice. We had a balcony and a view of the lake. The bathroom was clean and the shower was large. The towels and wash cloths were very good. The bed was a little firm, but we slept well. We enjoyed the ice cold sparkling wine and cookies (that day we had chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin). Our first night we decided to have dinner at the Dancing Bear restaurant in the hotel. We both had the cheese burger and fries. We also had a glass of Switchback beer. The food was okay and was mostly covered by the resort credit we were given. There are other, better choices in town. We went down for coffee in the morning. We got down stairs the second morning and the urns were empty( but were replaced quickly by the desk manager when I told him. The 1/2 &1/2 was also empty and he brought some more but he said that was all they had. So if you want coffee (which I recommend) and cream make sure you get down to the lobby early. Overall we really liked the High Peaks Resort and would stay there again.
