Travellers' Choice
Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary is Swaziland's pioneer conservation area and a beautiful, secluded sanctuary situated in the Kingdom's Ezulwini Valley, 'Valley of Heavens'. Located between Mbabane and Manzini, 24hr gate access is offered to the Sanctuary enabling guests to enjoy the neighbouring tourist hubs of Ezulwini and Malkerns with their many unique attractions and craft shops. The name 'Mlilwane' ('Little Fire' in siSwati) was derived from the numerous fires started by lightening strikes on the Mlilwane Hill but now holds significance as the little fire that started a big conservation movement in Swaziland resulting in the saving of over 22 species from local extinction across the three reserves. The Sanctuary covers 4,560 hectares and comprises of a southern and northern section. The southern section's grassland plains stretch up to the striking Nyonyane Mountain with its exposed granite peak known as the 'Rock of Execution'. All of Mlilwane's accommodation, dining and activity options are concentrated in this southern section of the park, with the exception of guided trails which enter the pristine northern section.

My wife and I stayed here for a few days- and thoroughly enjoyed it. The setting is wonderful, the camp is surrounded by wild animals just walking around naturally, the staff are very helpful and the food at the restaurant for vegetarians is fine. We went horse riding on one of the days and it was lovely to be able to get very close to the animals. The Lodge we stayed in was large, comfortable, with good electricity and Wi-Fi and fantastic views

We stayed in a beehive, which was rather dark en basic. We didn't even have a seat, not inside and not outside. The restaurant provided only buffet because there was a large group, so we could not choose our own food. Staff is friendly. Location is beautiful.

When you visit eSwatini, you would want to stay in a traditional "hut" and that is what I got to stay in for 2 nights at this beautiful sanctuary. Our tour group arrived late night so i didn't realise what was around me until the next morning. There are wildlife (antelope) all around the restaurant area. Monkeys conducting their monkey business and the odd bosvarkie enjoying the ongoing fire. The sanctuary is also about hiking and enjoying the mountain air. It gets cold here, and went, however, the huts were lovely and toasty inside. Wifi is available at a fee and is only accessible close to the reception area.

A rather big sanctuary and lodge catering for lot of big groups. Nice beehive huts gathered in a kraal. Nice surroundings with lots of antilopes, zebra, birds, crocodiles, turtles and warthogs. Nice and helpful staff. Wifi vouchers 50 rand a day at reception and restaurant. Good and not to long hike trails. Big pool. Activity by horses and bikes. Nice entertainment by local dressed performeres by logfire. Suggestions to improve the experience: - Add some inside chairs to sit on after dark - Divide the food area to get better logistics at breakfast. Make a lone standing egg station off the other food to divide the ques in morning like you have done with coffee.

Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary is a very nice location with a restaurant and a direct view in the river, really a nice place to bo. Unfortunately there are major disadvantages: - the room was dirty - the guys at the reception do not give you a feeling of warm welcome - extra costs for WLAN (8 Euro per day with a limit of 500 MB) and bicycle (8 Eur per hour per bike, no family package). Finally no recommendation from my side.

Concept is nice, but there is little to do and the buffet food (especially in the evenings) was disappointing (i.e., a copy-paste braai). Staff in the restaurant could not be bothered to look around and help (while with more than enough people), so one would have to go order at the bar every time.

Loved our stay here, the accomodation was perfect, the food was good and we enjoyed our surroundings! The only thing we didn't liked was the traditional dans. They have to do it every night and you just see that they aren't enthusiastic about it anymore wich I think is normal. Maybe they should do it every 2 or 3 days instead of every day?

Milwane after all these years (8) we still enjoy and had a great time. Everything was clean, we arrived late and there was no problem at all. All the facilities are working and the breakfast at the restaurant is fare enough.

Very nice smaller park (after Kruger). Kind staff. We staid in the house 45 min. drive from the central place (incl. electricity). For this house advise is to bring your own foof (BBQ). Best way to visit all parts of this park is with 4x4 or the cars incl. guide!

Absolutely loved it here. Being so close to the wildlife, being able to walk with no fears and to stay in the beehive huts and feel so safe and dry during a dramatic thunderstorm was a wonderful experience. I loved seeing the warthog piglets racing around the central green and also walking amongst impala lambs.
