We spend there 4 nights after visiting Tanzania during 2.5 weeks. We loved the Matemwe Beach Village. You can't do a lot there, except laying on the beach or at the pool (very important due to the tide), reading books, enjoying drinks at the pool bar, taking a massage, snorkelling or learning to dive. It's really relaxing. The pool area... more

It took us some time to get used to this unique location. After some terible experiences on Kilimanjaro and safari at the begining we saw only the bad things in Matemwe Beach Village: - everything looks a bit old - the windows have only a mosquito net and no glass and we could hear everything from the neighbour rooms and... more

The location of the village is good, nice and quite, beautiful beach. We stayed in one of the standard rooms and they are indeed standard but okay. We noticed that the staff was not as friendly as we have been used on Zanzibar so far. They gave us the impression that they didn’t wanted to work there. Also the fixed... more

We stayed at Matemwe for four nights. Our group consisted of two teenage boys, aged 15. It was a wonderful vacation for all of us! The grounds of this hotel are beautiful and spotless, rooms easy and clean, and the restaurant/lounge/bar area gives the easy, breezy exotic feeling. Choices at dinner were limited but everything was excellent. The staff was... more

Matemwe Beach Village was a mini-paradise on Zanzibar. The thatched roof suites are clean, simple but also elegant. The hosts are amazingly helpful and the food is wonderful...we even had our own Forodhani style buffet one night. This, of course, is secondary to the gorgeous private beach steps from your private front door. Driving through a small, native village may... more

Our stay at Matemwe was absolutely incredible. It's over an hour's drive from the airport (must bargain with the cab driver), but certainly worth it. The lodging matches the breathtaking scenery. It's clean, peaceful, and romantic. The food and service are exemplary. Tea on the beach at sunrise, free rides with local fisherman, fabulous pool and pool side bar....snorkling and... more

We stayed at Matemwe in August this year for 7 nights as part of our honeymoon. After we booked I read some of the trip advisor reviews and was slightly aprehensive about the mosquitos as I am normally a magnet for them (44 on one foot during a holiday to Cuba a couple of years ago!). I need not have... more

We think that one of the most important things for an accomodation is to give new visitors a warm welcome with at least a smile. During our stay we really missed a friendly touch of the staff. It looks like the staff doesn't like working here and project it to the visitors. Another big complaint is the fixed diner for... more

We stayed there in May-2005 (not 2006) after a week on safari in Tanzania and 8 days in Uganda. We were there with 2 other couples we were traveling with--for part of our stay it was just the 6 of us. It was perfect. The suites were heaven--comfortable beds with mosquito nets, the best shower I think I've ever had.... more

We have just returned from a wonderful honeymoon in Zanzibar which ended with 3 nights in the amazing Asali Suite. This is an independent lodge 50 metres or so away from the rest of the properties and, to my husband and I, it was pure paradise. It is built in typically Zanzibarian style - one large round building with a... more
