I am absolutely baffled as to how Flame Tree Cottages can charge 120 USD per night in the Nungwi/Kendwa area. I initially booked Flame Tree as it was our last stay on a six week holiday in East Africa and wanted a splurge at the end of the trip. However, upon arrival, we were told none of the cottages were... more

Stayed here with a friend for a week in February. Was just what we needed before we flew home. Service was great and loved the breakfast on the verandah each morning. Food was scrummy. Its not flashy but its really just comfortable and relaxing. I loved Zanzibar - would recommend this place in an instant. more

Lovely, clean, great location and wonderful service. Stayed 2 nights in flame cottage and if you want quiet and well located place this is it! We arrived in late June and only reason we did not stay longer is we found comparable places nearby for 40% less. also they have wifi for 10 bucks a stay! more

We spent 7 nights at Flame Tree in Feb 2009. Elizabeth (the owner) was extremely helpful and efficient when I was enquiring about Flame Tree and that, together with the other reviews on Trip Advisor helped me to decide to go there. The setting is gorgeous. Right on the beach, and a short walk away from the better swimming beaches,... more

We stayed here for 7 nights and in terms on Nungwi, I think Flame Tree is probably one of the nicest spots. Service was fantastic and the beach/beach chairs were great. However, that's were it stops for me. I will say that perhaps I am a bit jaded as I was disappointed by Zanzibar in general, but I think if... more

As a group of six, we spent Easter week-end at the Flame Tree Cottages. We rented two cottages that had comfortable sitting rooms as well as the air conditioned bedrooms and bath. This modest priced hotel lived up toits website and the reviews we read from Trip Advisor(and chose it due to the reviews). The food was delicious and we... more

Flame Tree is in an amazing spot, right on the beach. The beach is clean and the water clear. The rooms are very comfortable but need to be standardised. Some rooms have a fridge, others do not. Some bathrooms have shelves, other don't. etc. The food is also very inconsistant. I understand that various staff need to have the opportunity... more

We have just come back from Zanzibar, having travelled round the entire island for almost 3 weeks. If you are going to Nungwe in the North of the Island to enjoy the fine beaches/excellent water quality at this location and an intensive, large, hotel/club is not really your idea of getting away from it all - then I would reccommend... more

We loved it here, and they do have a beach! What is that writer thinking of?! White, glorious and in spades. The service was wonderful, and the breakfasts were sumptious. It's not cheap, but nowhere good is, and the gardens, hammocks and sheer 'loverlyiness' would be hard to beat. more

This place is great. We spent 5 nights in Flame Tree and would go back in a second. Comfortable, low-key, perfect. Amazing food. The owners Elizabeth and Saif were very helpful and full of advice. They also loaned us some playing cards and a game on the one rainy day we had which turned out to be great, napping and... more
