We had a brilliant time at Gemma. Having read some of the reviews before we went we were a little bit concerned, although we thought the reviewers were maybe a tad picky. However we would agree that it was not what we expected in a five star hotel - the towels were a decidedly grey(ish) colour and not sparkly white... more

My fiancé and I decided to get married in Zanzibar and thought the Gemma Del Est to be the perfect location. When we arrived we were not disappointed. The hotel and its grounds were beautiful. I think you would have to be extremely picky not to rate this hotel highly – granted the entertainment in the bar was a bit... more

We arrived at the Gemma Dell Est after safari in Kenya. We were really looking forward to just relaxing however upon arriving at our hotel room we were met by workmen lifting up manhole covers and checking the drains! Great start to our beach honeymoon. After complaining to the front desk who seem to only understand Italian and not English... more

This hotel obviously was, and could be again, a high end resort. It still has a relaxed atmosphere with excellent staff, but many of the features/facilities are becoming tired. Another of the major problems which could be resolved by the hotel is reliability of electrical power. We stayed in a Deluxe room for a full week in early October 2009... more

The Gemma is an excellent hotel set in a wonderful location with white dust sand. It does however fail to meet its billing on a couple of fronts… the restaurant - the vegetables and fruit were excellent the meats… terrible and where did all the chicken breasts go? Entertainment was minimal. The good - the service was excellent, the beach... more

The location is absolutely second to none. The crystal blue sea was picture perfect, and right next to the hotel pool. We had a butler service, and I would not recommend this, it was more like room service, with it taking up to 45 minutes to bring a glass of wine. The hotel staff's grasp of English was not that... more

We travelled as a group of four, two of which had arranged their marriage at this resort. On arrival we were very impressed by the attention offered to us by the staff. We stayed in deluxe rooms which were spacious and comfortable and clean to the highest of standards. The room overlooked the sea and was shady with tinted glass... more

We really enjoyed our honeymoon. The hotel is beautiful and the surroundings are stunning. However, nothing really to do so one week here was enough. The animation team don't really offer much entertainment except volleyball once a day. Anything not included in the all inclusive was overpriced and the staff were mainly europeans and understood very little english. I found... more

This really was a nice hotel. We were all inclusive and it pretty much includes everything you would expect. The only thing it doesn't include would be certain drinks (if you need the expensive brands), day trips and the spa. I thought these things were pretty expensive but I suppose a hotel of this standard will charge that sort of... more
