While looking for a place to stay during the Lake Placid Ironman, I came upon the Sara Placid Motel website in Saranac Lake, just 6 miles from L. Placid. What good fortune! Steve, the owner, was most friendly over the phone and very helpful informing me about the Prescott House, a lovely dwelling built in the early 1900's as a TB hospital. Not only was it a great price, but it was clean, quiet and charming. It had everything we needed and was most comfortable. Steve was waiting for us when we arrived late in the evening, gave us the tour of the whole place, never giving us a feeling of being rushed even though it was late. It is especially good for an extended stay, with a full kitchen on the lower level and lots of porches. I highly recommend it!
