We love Shelter Island - truly an idyllic getaway from the hustle and bustle of NYC. The Chequit has always been a nice place to stay, but things have changed. If you're going to reserve, ask if they'll have any live music during your stay. They had a live band this past Saturday night. The music, along with the noises... more

This was the second time my boyfriend and I stayed at the Chequit, once in March '08 and again in July. Our March stay was in the main house - large carpeted room, comfortable double bed, overlooking the pharmacy next door and beyond. The only real downside to this room was the lingering smell of gas (there is a gas... more

The Chequit Inn was adorable, clean and close to the ferry from Greenport. We took our bikes and spent the weekend riding around the island -- Nice beaches and very relaxing. more

We stayed here over the weekend as friends of ours were getting married at Shelter Island and it was among the more affordable accomodations we could find. We chose a room in the Cedar House because we were told they were larger than those rooms in the summer cottage and also that they had air conditioning, but they were less... more

We chose to stay at the cottage as it was a little less expensive, although prices were lower in the off-season anyway. They have a skeleton staff during the off-season so we were checked in by the bartender. He gave us a warm welcome and had lots of helpful information on the local area. Luckily the restaurant wasn't that busy... more

Very nice place, easily accessible from the ferry. Nice and relaxing atmosphere, bar and outside space for eating (both terrace and patio). Bedroom was small but mint, with room for a crib (super clean). Good sound proofing (important as we had a yound baby). Breakfast could be improved with fruits, and freshly squeezed oj. 10' bicycle ride from nice beaches.... more

When we arrived our credit card was immediately asked and debited, without any smile nor welcome words. We receive the key and ciao... Metrass + base completely out. Impossible to sleep during the first night. Metrass changed for the second night, but the base was noisy again, and the metrass take the form of the so old base after one... more

I stayed in one of the ground flloor, front facing summer cottage rooms. It was very clean, all white and had plentry of towels. The summer cottage rooms do not have AC, which I don't mind and actually prefer to sleep with a window open (and the ceiling fan worked very well) but, the big problem was that the only... more

I had a very pleasant stay at the Chequit last summer while recovering from back surgery. They sent a van to meet me at the ferry and everyone was helpful. My room was compact (read tiny!) but comfortable and had a private bathroom. The walls are a little thin in the Summer House but not unbearably so. I had an... more
