My partner and I stayed in the Dunia suite for 3 nights in July 2009. We chose this room in large part for its open bathroom and sundeck that are located upstairs from the bedroom. We were not disapointed with the fantastic view on the rooftops of Stone Town. Besides, the sun deck, although small, offers a lot of privacy... more

We stayed 2 nights here and then 2 nights on the East Coast. This hotel was cheaper than some of the bigger better known places in Stone Town but it was an excellent find. It's quite a small hotel but the rooms are beautiful (we stayed in the smallest Nadia which was still quite spacious). Bathroom was great. The breakfast... more

First of all, best food on the island. We tried most of the main restaurants around the island, and nothing was comparable. Yes, dinner's expensive but you are getting what you pay for. Don't miss the lobster. And if you're nice to Gilbert, he might sacrifice some of his Belgian chocolate (!). Second, it's like staying with friends. Everybody is... more

I wouldn't hesitate recommending anyone to stay here. The accommodation was wonderful, with the decor tastefully and carefully selected over many years. We were greeted, checked in, assisted and supported professionally the entire stay. Despite the care and attention of management though, they couldn't hope to outgun their Belgian-French chef who produced a lobster meal with matched wine as good... more

We had a one night stay in Stone Town and definitely made the best choice of hotel. Our room (Arabiaca) was amazing! It was well worth the very steep climb up several flights of stairs. Sheer luxury! The small restaurant served delicious food, beautifully presented but very expensive at $128 for a 3 course meal for 2 with just one... more

My partner and I stayed in the room Rosewood for two nights to finish a 2 week African holiday. The hotel is definitely boutique, beautifully and individually furnished. V good location, 2 mins from the sea front, and the breakfasts were excellent. The staff are polite and welcoming, can't comment on dinner as we ate out both nights. There's free... more

Having spent a week on Zanzibar's North-East coast, we enjoyed a one night stay in the Palace hotel. Our intention was to use the hotel as a base from which to explore Stone Town: we were not disappointed. The hotel is ideally located and the only regret was that we only spent one, rather than maybe two, nights in the... more

We stayed at the Zanzibar palace for one night during our honeymoon. The hotel itself was fine, we stayed in the Sultana suite, which was clean and looked out from its balcony across the rooftops of Stone Town. On arrival we were checked in by the new chef, a belgian, who told us food in Zanzibar was terrible and we... more

Stone Town is a wonderful place to visit, and the Palace Hotel is a central place to enjoy it. The management really takes care of you, have a wonderful restaurant at the site, and help you make plans (and not get lost). The rooms are so much fun, very exotic. Find out what floor your room is on if you... more

We stayed here for 2 nights one night on way to beach and 1 on the way back. Part of a package so hard to judge value. An absolutely fantastic place, made special by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The rooms are quirky, individual and more than adequate. Other reviews indicate they are a bit dim at night... more
