We had fairly low expectations of The Ru In as we had loved the Island Hotel and deeply regretted its demolition and replacement with Bodenland. However, we ate there as a large party on its opening night of the 2013 season and we were delighted with both the menu selection and our choices. THe food was delicious and the home-... More

My family were originally from Tresco and we've visited every year for the past 17 years, always staying at the Island Hotel until 2012, when we stayed in the new Sea Garden Cottages. We're a family of four and always stay for 5 nights, so with the demise of the Hotel our only choices are the New Inn and the... More

We stayed in the Sea Garden Cottages. The accomodation was a tasteful, comfortable luxury. Everything was done well and to a very high spec! T he Food in the Pub was also outstanding. In short, the Island was stunning, the locals were welcoming and I, like everyone else I met on Tresco, will be returning as soon as possible. I... More

Last visited in 1965 to see the gardens. This time we stayed in the sea cottages and were delighted with the accommodation, spotless, fresh, with immaculate kitchenware for self catering for which the shop was more than adequately stocked. I disagree that it was not "cosy" . Usually when it is wet and windy, as it was, cosy in self... More

We have visited the Island hotel before but love the changes. The beach front cottages are just great lots of space and the views are just to die for. We were on a four night break which was great value.Great offering at the Ruin The only negative we had was an issue with our arrival by helicopter.

My wife secured us an end of season deal complete with a golf buggy to get around the island on as I had a back problem in 2001. Hotel was superb, food good in the evening and their club sandwich at lunch time with a pint was georgeous.

We enjoyed the old Island Hotel and were prepared for the change to holiday "cottages" (actually California-style cabins on steroids: well fitted out but shouting 'I'm wealthy' not 'I'm cosy' ). Sadly the Dorrian Smith makeover is horribly done and il advised. Tresco is now like Disneyland crossed with Stepford Wives and the poor staff are obviously depressed drones (except... More

We have had seven holidays at the Island Hotel and this was our first at the new Sea Garden Cottages. We loved the old Island Hotel but we love the new cottages and The Ruin Beach Cafe even more. The cottages (we were in Spindrift) are lovely. The decor is superb and they are full of original art. The views... More

Our first return after the demise of the island Hotel... we stayed 5 nights in the Sea garden apartment 'Shrimp', its not cheap but well worth the money, stayed half board and ate at the ruin cafe. Fresh food served daily with out the 'snob factor'. Menu choices need extending but just opened so can only improve, lovely veranda to... More

We stayed for a week recently in one of the new cottages. Could not fault the cottage at all. Stunning interior with an amazing view. We had previously spent many happy times at the Island Hotel. The food had always been superb. We were quite disappointed with The Ruin. It was a cross between a cafe and restaurant. The menu... More
