Our last night in New Zealand was spent in Whitianga on beautiful Mercury Bay, a 3-hour drive from Auckland on the Coromandel Peninsula. The Oceanside motel is ideally situated across the road from the beach. Ground floor rooms have a nice patio area and I understand that the upstairs ones have a spa bath. The owner is extremely helpful. My only criticism is that, as we found out as our trip progressed, the motel was somewhat overpriced. more
