My husband and I stayed at the Toad Alley Bed and Bagel for one night on our way through NC over Labor Day weekend. We thought we would stop in and see if there really ARE furniture deals to be had (there are!).

We arrived very late, and had been in contact with the owner, who does not live on the premises, and who gave us the door code and her cell number in case of emergencies. It's in a country Victorian in a small historic district that was great for my morning run.

There was no note, maps of area, or other welcoming materials, including no drinks (not even water), no cups, no snack or fruits as we've usually had when staying in B&B. A cook arrived at 8:30 a.m. to prepare breakfast -- we'd been up since 7 and were eager to get to furniture shopping. Breakfast was not bad, but was pretty minimal (strawberries one day, no fruit the other day, no fresh baked goods, etc.)
Stayed 2 nights, never met innkeeper. We stayed with 2 children and a baby in the Lily Pad. Beds were old but fair condition. It was average heat for summer in North Carolina, but the air-conditioning didn't reach third floor which had a fan that was very loud and dangerously wobbly. We sent note after we left to ask if this level of...
