This is a great B&B!! We loved the room (Master Suite w/private bath), Mark makes the most delicious breakfasts (so good he could be a chef), and Mark and Lori are wonderful hosts (and quite enjoyable to get to know). Also, you are right in the historical district and a short walk from the lovely downtown. We plan to go again.

I recommend the Master Stateroom. Large suite with well appointed room and bath. Care provided by Mark and Lori was excellent and warm. In room coffeemaker but also coffee, tea, water provided in dining room.
Breakfast fresh and filling, created on order. Crepes were excellent.

This was our first experience at a B&B and after the first night and breakfast I knew I wanted to come back. Everything was absolutely wonderful! Mark is a fabulous breakfast chef, the location was perfect for walking everywhere we wanted to go, the bed was comfortable and we slept well. Mark and Lori are warm and welcoming hosts. They are a wonderful asset for New Bern and we look forward to returning soon!

My husband and I spent 5 days at the Captains Stay. We were celebrating his birthday. Lori and Mark are wonderful. The daily breakfast was unbelievable. We stayed in the Outlanders Cottage. The cottage was perfect for our time there. The location was convenient for walking to the historic area and restaurants. This was our first experience with a BNB and it could not have been better. I would definitely stay again. Especially for Mark's breakfasts.

We spent the night of April 30th in the Crow's Nest Cabin behind the main house. It was just as quaint and cozy as could be. The layout and decor of the cabin is so charming, you immediately feel at home. Very modern and spotless bathroom. Two very comfy beds and they had these very soft and cuddly fleece mini-blankets, which we both remarked on the next day.

The main house is wonderful. The furniture, the decor, everything was very cozy. Plush leather couches and such. The dining room was very impressive, I love decor like that.

We were on a quick turnaround to attend the Cherry Point Air Show that weekend and I was in the throes of a very bad cold. After the first day of the Air Show I was worn out and just wanted to sit down. The Crow's Nest gave me a cozy bed and blanket with which to relax in peace and comfort.

The Innkeepers, Craig and Denise, could not have been nicer. For being new to the B&B scene, they already understand the fine balance between accommodating and smothering. They will bend over backwards for your needs, otherwise they leave you alone. Perfect. But I do encourage you to engage them in conversation as both seem to be very interesting people.

They received my rare "fifth star" because they did the little things here and there, far too many to detail - and frankly, I hated to have to leave. We will be back, and with good health I hope to get to know them better next time.

I'm happy or sad (!) to report that Deb has just sold The Captains Stay. Paul has passed away and she's happy and sad (!) to be moving on. The new owners from Maine will be keeping it as a B&B so let's hope it stays as wonderful as before .

We stayed in both the Nautical and Master rooms and both were excellent! The house has so much character and it was a real pleasure to be able to stay there. Debbie and Paul were wonderful host and a wealth of information about the area. Breakfast was most excellent and we are already looking forward to our next stay! Also, the house is easy walking distance to pretty much everything in town. My girlfriend and I were really happy with our stay and we will definitely stay here on our next trip to New Bern.

Deb and Paul are the best innkeepers ever! Deb went out of her way to accommodate our crazy schedule, waking up an hour early to prepare a made to order breakfast for us both. She also kindly obliged when I asked her to do my laundry! My room was comfortable and perfect in every way. No thoughtful detail was overlooked throughout our stay and I would recommend her place to anyone planning a trip to New Bern!

We stayed at The Captain's Stay in the Master Stateroom in June and had a very nice experience. The owners welcomed us and gave a tour. There was a comfortable living room and a game room with billiards, acoustic guitars (if you play) and more. They have a treasure trove of dvds if you are so inclined. We took a walk in the neighborhood and found the fabulous Cow Cafe nearby as well as gardens, churches and beautiful historic homes. I would highly recommend going for a walk around. Breakfast was excellent; there were pancakes, eggs, sausage, cereals, muffins and bagels, yogurt, juice and coffee. The only issue is that we had trouble getting onto the wifi. We had a nice time and would highly recommend The Captain's Stay.

Are there rooms with 2 beds?
Answer from Patricia M

Yes. The room is located on the second floor on the right. It does not have a private bath but the bathroom is right next to it. There are two twin beds. It is a small room and has served my needs each time.
