My wedding was held at the Velvet Cloak Inn, Saturday, June 21, 2008. While the price was right and the King's Ballroom grand the elegance of the hotel stops there. My husband and I attempted contact with the event manager who was seldom in and rarely returned calls. Even when we finally met there with the caterer the assistant met... more

In spite of reading some negative reviews of the hotel which concerned me, I booked two rooms anyway because of its location. The clerk was friendly upon arrival. In the middle of the night I was awakened by somebody putting a key in my locked door. The next thing I knew they had it open, but were unable to get... more

I was very unhappy with the service we received recently at the Velvet Cloak Inn in Raleigh. We stayed 2 nights for my friends wedding, and had the reception on the property as well. The staff was not very accommodating, told us one thing then did another multiple times and did not at all seem to care that we not... more

This place was THE worst! It looks nice enough on the website but dont be fooled people. The rooms are not as renovated as they want you to believe. Our rooms were missing towels and even a pillow. We had to call the front desk to get some. This also has to be one of the most unsafe places you... more

Awoke to find a fellow three steps into my room. He grabbed my money clip and left. Management finally called police after my second request. Lost a couple hundred dollars and my respect for the management. I stayed there a week on business and they never even mentioned a word about the robbery. They didn't even tell the ogther shifts... more

A run-down property. Doesn't feel safe. Rooms are minimal. Poor management. The desk staff was nice enough, but after I had been there a couple of hours the manager left a message for me to return to the lobby. He informed me that I had failed to completely fill out the check-in form -- it was missing my out-of-state driver's... more

I made arrangements for a group to stay at the Velvet Cloak and couldn't have been more pleased with the service I received! The Sales Department was professional and accomodating. Upon arrival, check-in was quick, the room was clean and roomy, and I LOVED the new mattresses! This is an older hotel, a landmark for those of us who grew... more

Not sure about the overnight stay, but I have been to many events at the Velvet Cloak. All of the events I have attented have been very well done.In the last year or so, the hotel has hired new staff and has redone itself. If your looking for a run of the mill Holiday Inn conference center...you know where to... more

I recently stayed at this hotel again and was very pleased to see that many of the improvements that were under way have been completed including Barons Bar and they are about to open a sports lounge annex. There is no getting around the fact that this is an old hotel but it has class and charming employees who make... more

Where to start...We stayed at the motel for 3 nights. We were here with a group of thirty for a swim meet. When we first arrived, check in was relativly easy. The young lady at the front desk was very pleasant. Right away though, you can tell that this is a very old motel. I wouldn't call it a hotel... more
