One of my pet-peeves in any customer-facing industry is not being acknowledged by customer service personnel. When I arrived at check-in, there were two desk clerks and both were helping clients. I waited in line until one of them became available and then I approached the counter. The clerk did not look up from her computer and make eye-contact of any kind. She continued to type on her computer and even walked away at one point into an adjacent office leaving me to wonder if she was even working any longer. When she finally did return and finally acknowledge me, she didn't crack a smile the entire time. How much effort is involved in looking up with a smile and simply stating "Thank you for waiting, I'll be right with you in just a moment"
