To sit within hours of the plane on your private balcony watching and listening to the sea was just heaven. The room was delightful, breakfasts were great, service very good,. beach fantastic and the sea, though challenging, simply wonderful. This place seems to be primarily a centre for functions, especially weddings (we saw 7 in one day) which is fun... More

Mount Lavinia Hotel has luxury and style. The hotel is perfectly situated on a cliff overlooking the sea and with beautiful sandy beaches on both sides. We stayed in room 407, an ocean front room. It could not have been better. There is no problem accessing Colombo by train or by taxi if you like to see more of the... More

A super period hotel where nothing is too much trouble for the staff. It is a very old building with old and new rooms. The new rooms are like any hotel. The old 'colonial' rooms are more traditional with older furniture and wooden parquet floors. They vary quite a bit, from amazing to meh. You do not want a room... More

First the good- The hotel has character and a great terrace/pool area where you can have drinks, dinner in a beautiful setting. I loved being able to enjoy my meals there and the food was quite good. The view from my room was lovely and I really enjoyed sitting in the balcony. Unfortunately- They "mixed up" my reservation so after... More

Visited this Hotel in transit prior to doing a safari tour with Kuoni. Personally I don't get the reviews calling it a Great Colonial Hotel. The hotel itself has been added onto a few times and bares little relation to the original old building in the '40's. It is very busy, especially with local weddings, the rooms are good but... More

This is the second time I've stayed at this hotel. The breakfast menu is terrific and offers a variety of everything to cater for both Sri Lankan and western tastes, big eaters or light eaters. We originally stayed in the newer part of the hotel. The rooms here were huge and had a four poster bed and view of the... More

This was our first stop off in Sri Lankan and we loved it. Old colonial building with staff that made our stay as hassle free as possible. The food was excellent with a great choice of either local or international fare and the prices were very reasonable. Pool area, position of hotel, wonderful classical music gently playing in the background,... More

Second visit to Sri Lanka and second stay at Mount Lavina Hotel. What we like about the Mount Lavina is the range of choices and the quality of food on the menu particular at breakfast. The standard of the rooms is high and the beds are very comfortable. I found getting up in the morning looking out over the tops... More

Great location only one hour from the airport on a beautiful beach. This was the original British Governor's mansion, now extended to provide an impressive and palatial hotel with plenty of period features and uniformed staff in appropriate attire. We opted for the ocean side king room which was well worth the extra few pounds per night. We had a... More

Stayed for 4 days in January. It's weird that they still have actual keys and not the cards for the 4th floor where I stayed. My mates stayed on the 1st floor and had the key cards. I only mention this because I lost the keys on a drunken night out and ended up paying for them on check out.... More
