Our stay at Ranweli was without doubt one of the best holidays we have had as a family. The hotel staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The food was great, especially the local curries and dhals. The rooms were basic but that was perfect for us - who needs TV when you've got the beach and... more

We stayed here after an eight day trip around Sri Lanka. The situation was very peaceful with plenty of space for walking and bird watching. Rooms were simple but we loved them (unlikr previous reviewer). Large sittimg area inside and terrace with chairs and seaview. Bathroom had good shower, plenty of hot water, a tree growing in the corner and... more

This hotel was organised as a one night stop over after getting off a long holiday flight. We arrived in the early hours of the morning. At first it appeared okay. You get to the hotel via a river raft. At first glance the hotel appeared okay until we were shown to our room. This was extremely basic and one... more

We had 1 weeks stay and Ranweli, we needed somewhere peaceful with strong "simple life" credentials. It was wonderful, stunning location accessed by a short raft river crossing creating a real feeling of isolation. With Mango forest on one side it felt like a real adventure. The forest is full of interesting wild life, plants/trees adding to the setting. You... more

Stayed at Ranweli Holiday Village for one week at end of June beginning July 09. After booking discovered it was "monsoon season"! Packed umbrella, rain coats, etc but not really needed - it does rain briefly, then it clears and its back to blue skys (I asked the locals and they say this is typical). I loved the bungalows -... more

We have just returned from 10 days staying at the Ranweli Holiday village and wanted to add a review as we found the reviews we read before we went helpful. The hotel was very clean and tidy, the staff very very friendly, pleasant and helpful to any requests. All speak excellent English. Our hut was overlooking the beach which was... more

The place is located on the island between river and mangroves and the sea. It has only bungalows, well arranged, of great quality and design (the plant in the bathroom was particularly beautiful and great idea). All bungalows have sea view, fan, air conditioning, small terrace and private space in front, great hotel radio station with local music. They do... more

I went to the Ranweli in late June with my husband and some friends. I must admit it was very quite, , as I like alot of people around me. The hotel was very clean and friendly. The rooms were on the beach as in the brochure and they were very rustic. Yes the hotel looks quite tired and in... more

We arrived at Ranweli at 6am after out flight being delayed for 18 hours. We were shown to our room which was a lovely individual bungalow for two. Our first experience of the food was breakfast... Which was stone cold. I was starving after a 10 hour flight and was greeted with a cold cooked breakfast. That evening after relaxing... more

After reading some of the other reviews, we thought about what we liked and disliked. In essence, we didnt dislike anything really. As others have written, the worst part was the lack of certain drinks in the all inclusive menu (Diet Coke, Wine, Etc), but this is easily outweighted by the many positives. These include: Amazing beachside pool Roomy Beach... more
