We loved every minute at El Refugio, (not to be confused with hotel casa El Refugio). This doesn´t look like a hotel, but more like my grandma´s house, cozy, lovely, great service, great food and advice from Lety (in the kitchen) and Deborah (the manager), great location, very nice mexican decoration. Can´t wait to come back!!!! more
Once I adjusted my expectations, I appreciated this B & B and the value of my room very much. We stayed in the least expensive room and it was more comfortable and well-appointed (bed, pillows, shower pressure, cleanliness, etc.) than most hotels or private residences I have stayed at in Mexico, and certainly in this price range. Truly a unique property! An authentic, small B&B in a beautiful setting on a quiet street, just blocks from the action. Private, charming guest rooms face a traditional Mexican courtyard. Each morning we'd awake to a delicious hot breakfast complete with coffee, fresh fruit, pastries, and eggs set in a traditional dining room. Don't miss the opportunity to book in-room... more
We spent last weekend at El Refugio en Patzcuaro. Letty is a dear lady and great cook. Previously stayed at Mansion Iturbe for Thanksgiving '05 which was grand as well. This is a really, really lovely b&b, the rooms are beautifully and tastefully decorated, with great attention to detail, and the whole property has been renovated to very high standards. Service is really friendly, the breakfasts are wonderful, and the manager Deborah was always very quick to respond to any queries. One of the best b&bs I've ever stayed in. more
We had the place to ourselves in the off season--Sept. is a great time to be in this region. Very cool and breezy. We had 2 nights here and loved the beautifully appointed home. Had nice fires in the living area and the breakfasts that Lety cooked were incredible. She helped us find the perfect drinking chocolate. Debra, the manager,... more
El Refugio en Patzcuaro is definitely a sanctuary in Patzcuaro. Located across from the Basilica on a quiet street, this B&B has to rank among my all-time favorites. The rooms are top-notch, tastefully decorated, and the owners haven’t forgotten a single amenity. Elegant simplicity and whimsical touches characterize this property. The library, anchored by a massive fireplace, was an excellent... more
