Good place to stay at Xcalak. Hotel is good, rooms are nice and clean. restaurant is ok, but you get more typical ones in town the beach is very private and with white sand, BUT there is seagrass, in the sea, so you have to use the pier and jump in the water from there Xcalak is a interesting place,... We have stayed at the Tierra Maya twice and would highly recommend it. The owners and staff are very friendly, professional and accommodating. Rooms are generous, spotless and the food is good. We'll be back. Don't forget to try the chatchalacka margarita. Mark and John

We have just returned from a week in this wonderful place. The room was big and spacious with a patio and beautiful deck chairs out the back door facing the playa. Perfect for morning coffee and the delicious coffee cake that accompanied it. We had great fun using the cruiser bikes to tour Xcalak and the road north. Kayaking, snorkeling,... More

We have only just left Xcalack and Tierra Maya this morning, but would like to write while it is still fresh in my mind! I highly recommend this place to stay. From the minute we arrived, the hotel manager Eduardo made us feel so welcome and went out of his way to help us out. Our room was exceptionally clean... More

Xcalak - 400 people (mas o menos) - is a fishing village that envelopes u in its slow pace and easy life. Tierra Maya is a short bike ride or 20 minute walk from the village. Bikes provided but if u ride into town for dinner must have headlamps - it is crazy dark!! Seaside palapas are spacious w simple... More

A must do thing in the hotel: take the kayak, paddle out, bind the kayak at the buoyant, swim with thousands of fishes and snorkelling around the big coral just in front of the hotel beach! The best experience in life! Worth all the price and efforts to come. And don't miss the nice Mexican food in the restaurant

We stayed at Hotel Tierra Maya for 10 days and really enjoyed ourselves! The small, quaint hotel right on the Caribbean Sea was exactly what we were looking for. We chose Hotel Tierra Maya over other hotels in the area because of the 'freedom' guests have in their own vacation (turned off others because of reviews from guests feeling obligated... More

We love Eduardo ! We like his relaxed style when he cooks lobster, probably the best lobster in the world, we like his surprising style when he mixes in the fastest way possible the greatest margaritas around Xcalak and last but not least we adore the perfect style that he has when he takes care of the guests' wishes !... This is the third time we have stayed at the Tierra Maya over the past few years. We came here exclusively to fly fish and were not disappointed. Ove the coarse of a week we caught many bonefish (nice size), quite a few baby tarpon and some snook. We did hunt for permit, got some shots but did not land... More

Eduardo and staff provide outstanding service. The fishing package which includes local guides is probably the most economical for all bonefish / permit destinations. The guides are excellent and have years and years of experience mapping the niches in Chetumal Bay - compared to a more popular resort in the area that brings in guides from Ascension Bay. The food... More
