I’ll start with the positives. The food in 1851 was lovely. The castle itself is beautiful. We stayed in Buckerley room, an exec room which was nice, but very cold with only a small radiator. What I’ve experienced in the last week, since my visit is the most horrendous customer service and this has left my experience a far less pleasant one, of which I do say I’ll never return. The manager seems to be unavailable to speak with. I doubt any sufficient response on here or that they are bothered about how they are perceived at all given other reviews. We received this stay as a gift at Christmas. It was fully paid for, and included a meal with wine. We struggled to be able to book the stay in, my parents actually then were able to continuously call for us and attempt to book / and we got the weekend booked in for March. Upon booking the stay in Nov - my mum was sent a paper /card voucher and we were asked to take it with us. Which we did. At NO POINT we’re we asked for this. At check in or check out. At check out we were at the desk for 45 mins. Not because it was busy, but because of the incompetence of the staff who had calculated the bill or a flaw in the billing system itself. No one took responsibility or apologised. Given the room had been prepaid, we had an upgrade which was prepaid, we only had to pay for drinks and the service charge which is a discretionary add. I asked for it all to be itemised as it sounded wrong given we’d paid for other drinks upfront and noticed we had been overcharged on wine, my brother on a different room had been charged double for wine. We eventually settled the bill and left, apart from that ridiculous billing I was thinking it was a real 10/10 stay. Then on Wed night I received a phone call from reception desk - three days after leaving, saying I hadn’t given in the card so I was going to be charged for the room. I’d left without paying the bill! What! The room was already paid for in November! It was redeemed when booked in, in January. How could I have not paid!? I was told this piece of card was like a gift card in a supermarket, and as I hadn’t redeemed it- I’ve walked out with not paying!!!! I offered to email them the paper, this was apparently not sufficient for higher management. Tia, reception desk manager - asked me to post the paper. Totally ludicrous. I asked why should I pay to post something - if they wanted it, they should have asked for it, how was I to know it was so imperative?! We had actually taken it. But you’d think it’s the job of the receptionist to ask for it. Spoke to various members of the company over the last week- all as unreasonable and unhelpful as each other. Their total response is I’ve left a hotel without paying. If I didn’t post this and they receive it by Monday they will charge my credit card for an outstanding room! Actually Unbelievable. I asked them to send a self addressed envelope / told they don’t offer this service. I spoke to head of finance and accounts who was so rude and abrupt likening this to a visit to M&S and I’d walked out without paying! I said I’d email it, again she said she wanted it in physical form. I had to pay £7.50 to record sign post this piece of paper to them. Utterly ridiculous, their mistake and not mine and not one apology. I was told it was my responsibility to hand it in. How are you to know!? Customer experience is totally not at the top of their list but I will never go back. A customer lost. No recommendations from me. The poorest customer service I’ve received in a long time for a mistake they were responsible for.

Went for afternoon tea. The castle is lovely and impressive. But they are banking on that as i coujd have got a much better afternoon tea in dozens of local places. The tea itself was not nice it was bitter and tasted burnt. The cakes were underwhelming and seemed mass produced and cheap. The sandwiches were dull (we don’t eat meat but that doesn’t mean we only eat cheese and lettuce). The scones were very nice however nowhere near enough cream nor jam for both of us. We did ask for more and they did bring it for no extra charge though. All in all nice setting but wouldn’t go back for afternoon tea.

We stayed at Peckforton castle to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Check in was quick and the receptionist gave us all the information we needed regarding our stay. The room was amazing we stayed in the Beeston which has a huge 4 poster bed and views of beeston castle the room was absolutely spotless and very quiet. We had drinks in the wine cellar WOW what a venue and George was chatty and very professional. We had dinner in the brasserie which is reasonably priced and the food was very good. Breakfast was served in the 1851 dining room we were seated very quickly and the breakfast is a buffet which is plentiful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely visit again Well done Peckforton Castle.

Stayed at Peckforton Castle on 3rd March as 50th birthday present. We upgraded to four poster room. Drive up and exterior impressive although due to a little snow a lot of cars got stuck on the drive up so delayed checking in and no help from hotel that I could see. Got to room and looks impressive at first. Sat down on the four poster bed and the noise was terrible creaking badly and so we looked under the bed to see slats badly broken and missing and the main beam clearly broken. A shoddy repair had been done. We reported and showed the issue to the manager who admitted it was in a bad state and said they would resolve the noise issue as they couldn’t move us with being fully booked. We went out for dinner and upon return bed had been attempted to be fixed. Still noisy and uncomfortable so little sleep. Next day was offered the cost of the upgrade only. However I complained saying we paid in good faith for an upgraded high quality room. What we got was a four poster bed clearly broken that had not been repaired, it was so noisy and clearly broken it impacted sleep. Management contacted me after following up the day after to apologise and offered a free lunch. My issue is firstly if you advertise as a high end venue a guest should expect a level of quality and a minimum expectation for any hotel is a bed that is not clearly broken! To then try and offer the minimum possible compensation for such a poor experience tells me a lot about the kind of establishment it is. I think I am more annoyed at the response of management who seemed to think that as the bed was fixed now that was ok. Didn’t care that as customers our experience was clearly below what was expected. Reading the reviews clearly some work to do on keeping the rooms to a high standard. I would add also think about the customer experience when problems occur. The response to mine was shocking and I turned down their offer of lunch (we only ate breakfast there and that was a mediocre buffet) As a result of the managements failed attempt to rectify our poor experience I can firmly say I will never be wanting to stay at Peckforton Castle or any hotel in this group again after this experience!

Finally redeemed a voucher I had gifted my Mum for her birthday last June for afternoon tea. Seemed fitting to go at the start of Mothers Day weekend and we weren’t disappointed. Having, lived only a few miles away all my life and frequently visiting Beeston Castle, I have never visited Peckforton. What a lovely place. the castle is immaculate and grounds and although the room small where we had afternoon tea it was charming and very relaxing. The castle is somewhat dark in places compared to more modern hotels but this adds to the charm. The afternoon tea itself was lovely. We requested plain sandwiches both being fussy eaters and this was accommodated. Scone was so light and tasty and the other cake selection was good. We didn’t eat it all but anything left was bagged up and taken home. The lovely gentleman working in the restaurant offered to show me the other area of the castle which was amazing. I didn’t get his name sorry but Thank you. It really was lovely to have a look around and take some memorable pictures. Ladies who served us were both very friendly and helpful and we will certainly return again and a wonderful experience and time had.

We stayed at the Castle over Valentine's Day / Night on a room and dinner package. Our stay included afternoon tea which was disappointing due to lack of service and very few options provided, e.g. tea flavours, etc. However, we did not allow this to spoil our special occasion. The four poster room was delightful although a little tired in its decor. It did have all the amenities and included a heated bathroom floor. Fresh milk for our morning cup of tea/coffee was available upon request and was delivered promptly. The dinner was included as part of the package although the staff were not aware of the free glass of bubbles included. The maitre d' honoured it without fuss for which we were grateful. Upon departure, they confirmed that this was part of the package. The food was excellent for dinner including an excellently cooked chateaubriand with plenty of it. We indulged in a starter which was excellent too. Service was just right with no rush which suited us. We were seated in a booth which we requested and it was very comfortable. All credit to the gardener, also, who manicured the lawn so well. Our only adverse comment would be the staff paying attention to detail which, perhaps, would come through better training.

March the 5th 8pm and my last night here and just back in room 106 after another fantastic meal in the brasserie. Food has been lovely and the same for the breakfasts . Cannot fault either as so nice. All the staff from reception to the bar staff to the restaurant staff are so nice and helpful and very smartly dressed . Room again could not fault really nice. Yes if I was on 4 in a bed you can always find something if you want too. But I'm not. Building is absolutely fantastic so we'll maintained for such a large and old castle. Bar has the wow factor when you walk In too. Carparking is dead easy and about a 2 to 300 yard walk to reception but you can drop luggage off then park car. Would I recommend it to others. Definitely.

Beautiful building and lovely from the outside. The wine bar and restaurants were also great. What really let it down were the rooms. The restaurant is directly above some of the rooms meaning you can hear everything far into the early hours. The bathrooms and windows were also covered in mould (see pictures) and the final icing on the cake was the toilet seat was broken and half off. Overall I’m not sure how this is a four star hotel. We won’t be returning and there are many other castle hotels at this same price I would strongly advise going for one of those

Expected far better standard to be honest all round. This hotel is geared towards weddings it seems. Beautiful castle but not very clean, cobwebs hanging from bathroom spotlights, mould in bathroom, dirt behind sink and in the corridors light fittings covered in cobwebs and daddy long legs. Bed was hanging off the wall, serving area in restaurant needed wiping, dusty and the glass was filthy Portion sizes are small, breakfast was cold and the Eton mess dessert was whipped cream and purred fruit with tiny pieces of meringue. I’d say it was a ratio of 80/20 cream to meringue. No salt and pepper on tables, had to ask twice. Has the potential to be far better in surroundings that are very beautiful.
