Just back from 'Romantic' stay with the OH. Was disappointed to say the least! If prices were halved it would still not offer value for money. One night plus mediocre food cost more than a week's stay in Corfu we enjoyed last year! I was nervous about going as I'd read the mixed reviews. Wish we hadn't bothered now. Room... more

this Inn is under bad management. We where the only guests and also the bar was empty all day. There is no atmosphere at all. Rooms are so so and the food on the menu is overpriced and not what guests in this area want. There are signs everywhere telling you what not to do: on the kitchen door: guests... more

This pub is in an amazing location but the rooms are below average and overpriced, the food is terrible (bizarre attempts at dishes that just don't work and at crazy prices), staff unhelpful. It's no surprise that the pub is empty. We ate the first night and then vowed never to return so went to Boot on our second night.... more

if you are looking for an idyllic location in the countryside away from the hussle & bussle of everyday life the Woolpack is the place for you. Ann & Dave made us very very welcome, the restaurant food is superb & the cask ales excellent. The Saturday night was excellent with the locals playing a variety of musical instruments &... more

Spent a wonderful few nights here and was delighted at what I found. Rooms were clean and comfortable and excellent drying facilities. The food was excellent, locally sourced and beautifully cooked and worth the money. However it is highly advisable to book in advance for evening dining. A cheaper menu is served in the afternoon, serving more basic food such... more

Dirty with electrical wiring hanging out in the bar, and an awful room (waterstains on the wall from a leak in the roof) this is without doubt a foul hotel. The food is also not much improved over the level of accomodation. A hotel to avoid. more

After travelling 30 miles on my bike in heavy rain and wild winds a warm welcome, warm bath and cool beer was all I wanted. Good hospitality is that too much to ask? Well at The Woolpack it is. I think the owner has been watching Fawlty Towers for the last 30 years as he has Basil down to a... more

firstly we arrived wet and cold after cycling 30 miles to ask where we could store our bikes and were told there was no where indoors but if we wanted they had a fence we could use (this was a surprise as I had asked and been told there was upon booking ) . We were then show to our... more

This is not the same hotel as we stayed at several years ago, it appears to have been acquired by people "with a mission". If you don't like "real ale" do like tomato sauce & chips, it seems there is no place for you here. This aggressively selective approach has probably alienated roughly two thirds of their prospective market. Personally,... more

The Woolpack Inn is exactly the sort of place you want to go for a traditional trip to the mountains. It is located in the most glorious isolation in Eskdale and is a delightfully eccentric mix of rather old-fashioned hotel (good!), superb food, and form those who like it excellent beers brewed on the premises. For those who found the... more
