Not sure of the locals who obviously have a bee in their bonnet but the pub, staff, food etc are spot on. Could not do enough for us. Really good pub. more

I can only comment on this pub as a visitor - there has obvioulsy been a falling out between some of the regulars and the new owners, as per previous comments. The Black Cock is a warm, cosy traditional Lakeland Pub - the food, beer and service are good. I found the food to be reasonably priced and the size... more

Have been used to eating here regularly in the past the new landlord seems hell bent of getting rid of the regulars. He may have had Michelin Stars but the food is dreadful. It took an hour to get our starters and the pub was not busy. Soup totally cold and inedible. Very disappointed . Prices gone up too. We... more

Like many of the other contributors on this site my family and I used to go to this pub very regularly. It has been ruined. Most of the staff have left (in fact all of them I think) because of the 'attitude' of the landlord, who seems to be trying to perfect his Basil Fawlty impression. People from Millom should... more

Waited 50 minutes for soup and a sandwich (we were actually forgotten about!). The soup was the worst I have EVER tasted and the ham in the baguette was 30% fat (left on). All three of us left the soup and did not finish our baguettes. Our drinks (£2.80) were taken off the bill for the delay in service but... more

This used to be one of my favourite pubs. Unfortunately, it has recently been taken over by a new landlord who seems keen to alienate all the previously loyal customers. We used to eat there every couple of weeks, but will not be returning for the foreseeable future. It's a shame. more

A cosy country inn with low ceilings, open fires, and picnic tables on the quiet street outside. Friendly staff, a good selection of beers, wines and spirits, and a great landlord make this the best pub in a market town well known for its great pubs, and guests staying at the inn can expect to leave satisfied - if a... more

Stayed one night in july 2005, cute inn with just 4 rooms, facilities are very good and nothing too much trouble for the staff. Everything has been thought of, DVD and game machine, bath robes, bottled water. The room even though situated over a popular inn and on one f the main roads it wasn't too noisy. The food is... more
