We stayed for one night, drawn to the area as many probably are by L'Enclume, which is next door (in fact they recommended we stay here). The village of Cartmel is beautiful and well worth a visit to see the other local sights, particularly the local food and drink shops, and further afield in the lakes. The pub itself looks... More

The Cavendish is a very comfortable place to stay and is a cut above the average inn. The choice and presentation of food is first class. Bar relaxed and comfortable. Interesting and well kept ales plus a wider selection of beers and lagers. Bedrooms small but comfortable. The overall impression is that the inn is well run and that they... More

Just back from a great weekend at the Cavendish with relatives we'd not seem for a couple of years. Rooms were comfy and clean - though the floorboards did creak a bit - which is to be expected for an inn of its age. Access to the courtyard parking is via a low and narrow entrance -- owners of large... More

Stayed for one night whilst in general area on business. Arrived mid afternoon and received an adequate welcome. Handed keys and left to own devices. Room was clean, very basic - a bit like the spare room at your grans!!!! We popped in to bar for a drink and bite to eat. Drinks were fine, however food was very poor.... More

Dear Mr D. Thank you for your recent posting, as with all of the very few negative reports I received over the ten years I have owned the Cavendish Arms,we are never told of your disappointment during your stay, we just see it on the world wide web where there is only one side of the issue. I would like... More

This is a great small hotel in a back street of the charming and wealthy village of Cartmel. The rooms were fine and clean but a little tired; too many things not working. Leaking shower hoses, window wedged open with a wooden block and too heavy to lift by my elderly mother who got cold in the night. Doors bang.... More

If you are looking to find fault rather than enjoy .... this is not for you. This place is pitched at those who enjoy, a genuine welcome, good food in a great village pub setting. We stayed one night and can not overstate the relaxation value. Late evening cheese platter and port by the fire....... Up in the morning for... More

Stayed in the Cavendish overnight whilst meeting up with my son and wife. We found the pub very enticing, especially with the open fire roaring away on an extremely cold day. We booked the large standard room, which was very spacious. The room was warm, and the bed comfortable and clean. (Our only negatives were the bathroom was a bit... More

we had a lovely room and enjoyable stay with Richard and his staff-they were most helpful and ironed out any problems we had when we arrived. The food was excellent and well presented. oOne word of advice to Residents -book your dining table in the dining room well in advance or at the time of booking. Also just a little... More

Stayed in Cartmel for a week at Easter, as we did last year. We visited twice, once to eat in the resteraunt. All 3 of the main pubs in Cartmel are very different from each other. This has a nice country pub feel, but with a degree of refinement thrown in. It has a separate small resteraunt area, which we... More
