This is a traditional inn, above a pub/restaurant. Like many of those places, it feels far more like a B&B than a hotel. It's a bit rough around the edges, but it isn't unpleasant. However, it is quite pricey for somewhere fairly average. If you want a truly special, romantic break, I'd recommend paying just a bit extra for one... more

Me & my fiancee have stayed at the bower house five times & it just gets better & better. We love the inn so much that we are having our wedding reception there next year. The hotel is run by general manager Darren Pilling who goes out of his way to make guests feel comfortable & have a memorable stay.... more

The bower house inn is perfectly situated for exploring the lake district. We stayed the night before climbing Scafell Pike, it only took us about 20 minutes to get there in the morning. The food was lovely, my husband would go back just for the homemade black pudding and the croissants at breakfast were particularly good. The room was small... more

My wife and I have stayed twice now both times for the BFest Music Festival. We love the hotel and the people. Being somewhat allergic to camping (no shower, no bed? no point! LOL) we have stayed in the hotel during the festival, which is organised by the owner of the Bower and all the proceeds go to the local... more

I have stayed here on 3 occasions, twice for a quiet break with my wife and once with an all-male party for a walking & climbing weekend. On every occasion I have been impresssed with the the excellent value for money, the convivial atmosphere and above all, the warmth of the welcome at this hotel. The staff continually went out... more

Was fortunate to find work taking me to the Lake District. Following a recommendation from a colleague, I booked a nights stay at the Bower House Inn. In a lovely quiet location, the hotel measured up to it's website's claims. Very professional and friendly welcome. I was escorted to my room and shown around the hotel. Not being near any... more

We stayed here for a long weekend recently and both the location and hotel itself, with pleasant and friendly local staff, were delightful . All the rooms in the main building were charming, including the birds 'chatting' on our window sill, early morning! The bar and restaurant were very welcoming and food only spoiled unnecessarily by the very high fat... more

A comfortable quaint place to stay. We found it to be clean and charming. The bar is real oldie worldie stuff and you wont feel uncomfortable if you arrive in your walking boots wet and muddy to sit by the fire and eat a bar meal. However when you've got yourself spruced up for the evening there is a restaurant... more
