Spent 2 nights here as part of a Lakeland Ramblers inn-to-inn walking tour. The setting is fairy-tale, food was fine, staff was pleasant and helpful to us hikers, with all our wet&muddy gear. more

Lovely inn. Far out enough for the peace but close enough to Ambleside for convenience. Bar food was delicious and reasonably priced. We regularly stay at the Three Shires as it is quite possibly the best place to stay in the Lake District. The rooms are clean and comfortable with fantastic views, the food is great and the staff are always very friendly and helpful. I use this site allot to review forthcoming holidays and accommodation and was therefore dudious about selecting this Inn based upon the other reviews recorded here. Very nice clean room, modern and tidy but not to keen on sheets and blankets and the pillows were no good! Breakfast was nice, even if you did have to talk in whispers in case the people on the next table could hear you, maybe a radio would help. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Extremely quiet and almost entirely devoid of atmosphere. Warm and comfortable guests lounge downstairs but upstairs one was like a nursing home and not at all welcoming - a bit creepy.
