We chose to eat at The Wheatsheaf as we had tickets for The Heron theatre in the village. Having consulted Trip Advisor and seen what reviewers were saying I was a little apprehensive but a friend who eats there often recommended it. We were not disappointed by the main course which was very good (we both had the duck) and... More

We went as a party of 11 for an evening meal. The food was fairly good, but the service was atrocious. We arrived at 7pm and were served our starter at 8.15pm. We didn't receive the dessert until 9.40pm. We were put in an upstairs room and thought this was possibly the reason we were 'forgotten' however, on a trip... More

Having stayed several times at this Pub/Hotel we were, this time, unfortunately disappointed. We stayed in the same room as always but the bed size had shrunk & there were no complementary toiletries. I had a very restless night, voices, clanking of pipes, so looking forward to breakfast. Alas, this was a disappoitment too. Choice was poor on cereal fruit... More

Visited for the 1p menu - appears good value however the portions are very small, possibly to compensate. The food was just ok - nothing wrong but nothing to get excited about either. I had melon which was a small glass with tiny squares of melon with half a dozen grapes, followed by the fish with creamy mash, again small... More

We went on Friday evening between Christmas and New Year. We went with friends who had previous been with us and by themselves as one of their favourite places to eat in the area. We took advantage of the 1 p started and 1 p sweets, which is very good value for money. But we were all disappointed as the... More

Was looking forward to dining here. Staff friendly and nice atmosphere. Bar manager was excellent and could not do enough. House pino grigio delicious. Reserved a table but was given one by the door despite there being other similar sized tables in other locations. Whilst waiting for our meal, noticed portion sizes quite small. My chicken dish was fine but... More

I haven't stayed here (but would love to). Came across this inn by accident whilst travelling on the A6. Stopped for lunch with our 6 year old daughter. Wonderful food and good value. Excellent staff. Warm welcome on a cold day. Will definitely stop by again.

Recently had a meal here with friends and was absolutely delighted with the food, but more importantly the efficient and friendly service by the staff, it really made our evening and will definatley be returning, it was the first time we had been and were very impressed by the atmosphere and warm welcome of the staff. Would highly recommend.

My mother, a close family friend and myself recently went for an evening meal at The Wheatsheat. We had a nice welcome and they were extremely busy (it was a Saturday evening) and somewhat rowdy around the Reception area downstairs. We were offered a table upstairs which was very pleasant and quieter than downstairs. Service started off OK but then... More
