We have eaten here many times. The staff are very friendly and the food is superb. The views are superb. You always get a friendly welcome. Recently there have been a range of handmade scarves and bric a brac on sale which is beautifully made and a bargain. I would highly recommend the Cross Keys whether you are just calling... More

A true escape from the pressures of modern life! With beautiful views over Cautley Spout and the Howgill fells this is the perfect base to recharge the soul! Alan and Chris are wonderful hosts and the food is locally sourced, tasty and plentiful. The parlour has a roaring fire and is the ideal place to relax after a hard walk.... More

We visited The Cross Keys when visiting the waterfall Cautley Spout. When entering the inn we were greeted with smiles and seated us in the parlour with a roaring fire. The food was reasonable and very good all homemade. The Owner Alan Gave us directions to another waterfall in the area we wanted to Visit. Hell Gill waterfall another unique... More

We visited the Cross Keys for an evening meal. We were led into a wonderful sitting room with roaring range fire, comfortable chairs and interesting pictures and artifacts on the wall. The 'bring your own' arrangement worked very well as we enjoyed a drink whilst considering the menu. A while later we were led through to the dining room. I... More

The Cross Keys was our first stop on a two day walking holiday in the Howgills. 10 of us descended for breakfast and we were all delighted with the warm reception, excellent bacon and egg rolls and even our 'awkward' member was well satisfied with his breakfast. The couple who run this very interesting, if quaint B&B are the prefect... More

I visited the cross keys a few times as a passing visiter for tea and cake and always been impressed. This weekend I had the pleasure of a longer stay and I wasn't disappointed. We had a warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We were always greated with a warm hello and roaring fire on returning from our... More

Firstly I am amazed at the review from July 2012, and am equally amazed at the sarcasm included in it. I have just had my 5th stay at the CK and it has always been nothing short of terrific. The building itself is charming, the rooms very comfortable, the food superb, the views from the conservatory unforgettable and different each... More

Be aware especially if travelling any distance that an E-Mail confirmation of your booking doesnt guarantee you a room here.Although they realised they had double booked us several hours before we arrived no attempt was made to contact us despite having our phone number and E-Mail address.I,m afraid an offer of a free night in a grim looking B&B with... The Cross Keys is the sort of place that makes you wistfully wish you were there, just stepping in for a pot of tea would do it, or their huge breakfast (we went out walking at 9am and honestly did not even need a snack til 2pm after it!), sitting in the conservatory listening to music and watching the birds... We will never forget our two nights at the Cross Keys. In a way, this is a fairytale place in a fairytale location. From the back of the Inn, you can see spectacular hills, speckled with gorgeous Rough Fell sheep, and riven by a waterfall. The rain (frequent in this part of the UK) only makes everything glisten with an... More
