I've been to this place three times now. First time was at Christmas time a few years back, second time was on honeymoon (in June a few years ago) and I've just returned from my third.

Things I like about Hartsop Fold:

1. Cheap, given what you get. The only thing I can think of that you DON'T get is you own washing machine, but there is a communal one on site (or just bring more clothes!).

It's right by the trailhead for access to the High Street ridge, and the main trailhead for Helvellyn is just a couple of miles up the road in Glenridding. Hartsop's central-eastern location in the national park makes access to both northern and southern areas quick and easy. The self-catering lodges are warm and comfortable, with a high standard throughout - except for the shower, which is a tepid dribble, and which was pretty much the only negative we noticed and is the only reason I haven't rated the place... more
