The wind in the willows was a lovely and peaceful place to stay. We had a room with a fiour poster bed and the room was beautiful The owners made us very welcome with tea on arrival and the food was lovely. We were on a motorbike and they didnt mind at all. Very quiet and we would certainly return. more

Having travelled over the Snake Pass, we spent a very enjoyable stay, highlighted by genuine hospitality in elegant surroundings. The roaring log fire was a delight and a true feeling of home from home. Nothing was too much trouble, enjoyed every minute. more

The hotel itself was adequate, clean and the staff were pleasent. However the rooms were extremely dated, lots of 'tat' as decor in the rooms. The most upsetting aspect however was how they had come up with there prices!!! For £130 per night I expected so much more. Based on other hotels and B&B's I have stayed £70-80 would have... more

We visit as many similar hotels as we can, and we have to say that we do not recognise the review comments to be the case at all. We rely on Hotel Inspectors to "tell us how it is" and in 2008 the hotel increased its AA merit score to 83%, one of the highest 2 Star ratings in the...

Booked a sneaky night away in Derbyshire. Price seemed OK but restaurant wasn't clear whether wine was included or not. We paid £145 for a 4 poster bed, B&B. Entrance to hotel is a bit shabby. Room was spacious but needed updating. 4 poster didn't have curtains around it, as apparently they should. Bathroom OK - nothing special. Hot water... more

Stayed for one night at this hotel in a superior room which was comfortable, though dated and ready for a refurbishment. Breakfast was of good quality and even the toast was served hot! Evening meal is available at a cost of £29 per person which, again was very enjoyable. My only complaint is that £145 for one night bed and... more

I found reviews of this hotel on late rooms website, I also looked at the hotel website and thought it looked and sounded perfect for a romantic, relaxing weekend with my gilrfriend. The only good thing I can say about the place is that it was clean and the rooms were a good size. The photos of the hotel are... more

AA Inspectors report 2007. The developement and re investment of capital continues and the guest experience is constantly being moved forward. The hotel comfortable meets its market expectations. An AA score of 80% is justly deserved. We always respect guest comments, which from time to time, vary with great surprise.

Simply perfect if you need to relax. The perfect bed, like an embrace! beautiful and cosy room, clean and welcoming. Incredibly quite, silence at any time, day and night. And the food was simply amazing! A fantastic dinner, filling and very well served and prepared. The best breakfast ever, cooked to order, not the usual over cooked buffet. Staff very... more

Booked this hotel to get away with a group of friends (9) to be in the middle nowhere with good service and that is exactly what we got. A very laid back feel to the place and you were able to relax and take it easy. The food was good although as expected it was freshly made and you will... more

The previous review is quite right-there are no frills here- no nice toiletries, no biscuits, not even water glasses-that really is poor! -and it could do with a bit of an update-the plastic fake marble in the bathroom and the cheap plyboard doors are a slight downer.......But there is some nice antique furniture and it is quite an atmospheric, homely,... more

Stayed here this week whilst on business in the area. We stumbled across this hotel by chance using a search on google for hotels in Glossop. This small family run hotel is in the highly regarded 'conde nast Johansens hotel directory'. The hotel is situated up a quiet country lane on the way out of Glossop at the foot of... more
