An expensive hotel with an upmarket boutique restaurant, yet has old fashioned TV sets with only 4 channels. Haven't they heard of Freeview? Bedroom was right alongside a very noisy stream and, because there was no double glazed windows, I was kept up all night going to the toilet because of the constant sound of running water. Bathroom towels are... more

Stayed for two nights. Bedrooms fine, although at the prices they charge I would expect bathrobes. Only ate breakfast at the hotel. Standard of cooking was good but service was far too slow. It would appear that they do not have enough waiting staff. The buffet of fruit, cereals, etc. could be improved. Had just come from Leeming house in... more

This is a gem. We arrived and first impressions were slightly worrying as the hotel is next to a main road, but after booking in and having our baggage carried up to our room, things just got better. The room was double glazed, so there was nearly no noise. It was large spacious, and very well appointed. The only down... more

There have been some bad reviews of this hotel (not helped by it having two entries - its not a Best Western now) so I wasn't expecting much. We were catching up with friends staying in a cottage in Hathersage village so the centrality of the hotel was the prime motivator. We booked with about a fortnights notice on Laterooms... more

Clean and spaceous rooms, good breakfast (didn't like black pudding though, but I am fussy about my black pudding!), friendly staff. The only thing (and that's the only reason I am not giving it a 5 star!) is that when you have a shower, the water goes sooo slowly down the sink! Otherwise highly recommended! more

I'm from Connecticut but live in the Philippines. Staying at the George Hotel was like going back to Connecticut but better than the best Ct. can offer for this type of Hotel. - Drive in during the day time. Beautiful scenery I stayed in room 21. 90 pounds all in with B-fast. Clean room, staff poured a Boddingtons after hours.... more

I was quite surprised to see the other reviews, I found The George Hotel to be delightful and an example of what a hotel should be - and is so often not in the UK. The decoration is cosy with little twists of humour like the picture in the bathroom, and nice touches like the teddy bear and tartan throw.... more

My Husband and I stayed at the George for night in October this year, as it nearby to Chatsworth House which we were visiting that day. We decided to book the four-poster bedroom and must say that we were pleased with the room despite it being slightly over priced in our opinion. The room itself was pleasantly decorated, with some... more

I booked the George (which looked ok on its website) for a one night stop-over , as the Plough (by far superior) was unfortunately full. The George may have a good restaurant (I personally can't say as I dined at the excellent Walnut Club instead) but if the (second) room I was unfortunate enough to be allocated was anything to... more

From the outside, The George Hotel looks like a cozy, country house hotel - which is exactly what it is. But visit the restaurant and you'll be impressed with (if you'll pardon the cliche) traditional food with a contemporary twist. Prices are sensible and the quality is excellent. The service was very efficient - at times slightly too efficient -... more
