Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed in one of the garden rooms. Near perfect: comfortable, spacious, with huge bathroom and its heated floor. Nice touches of fresh milk and water in the fridge. Food and service in the restaurant were first-rate. Good choice for breakfast, with all items fully served by attentive staff (a service we particularly value).

Came back for a 3 night stay for my husband’s birthday after a lovely stay last year. We stayed in room 10 last year and decided to try a garden room this year. We were given room 7 and wow! It was perfect! Loved all the added touches like fresh milk, heated floors, lovely gardens/field and beautiful views. Everything we would want for our doggy holiday. Finding somewhere nice and dog friendly is usually difficult but this place does it so well! Went for dinner this evening in the restaurant and it was perfect!!! I had the Korean chicken, seabass and the strawberry and basil for dessert! My husband had the lamb to start, pork belly and a delice! We both loved every mouthful! Everything was cooked perfectly and the service was just brilliant! We felt very welcome with our 2 dogs and cannot fault anything. We are looking forward to our next 2 nights and can see this becoming and annual trip!

Lovely rooms, with lounge area and outside seating. Tea and coffee in room with a fridge. Very clean and modern fittings. Food in restaurant was nice . Service was a little slow but to be fair we were a large group even though we did tell them in advance what we would like to eat. Staff were friendly beware of service charges.

Amazing hotel and scenery, everywhere was clean and tidy. Went to celebrate a friends 30th birthday and was not disappointed. We had breakfast and was stunning. Lovely stay and celebrations would definitely recommend to others. Only downside we had was due to the 28 degree heat rooms where red hot and fans provided didn’t really make a difference

Stayed in the garden accommodation and always lovely, everything you could ask for. The location, the main building etc is fantastic…………and then there’s the food. What a disappointment again!! Stay here but don’t bother eating here. Take for example the ‘fish butty’. Dried bread and the minimal amount of fish and I mean minimal. Thankfully the small amount of chips that you order separately was good. The Carpenters Arms was once quite good on the food front but that’s yet another disappointing meal.

The place is fantastic a really nice atmosphere and great food. The service is diabolical. Waited forever for food and drinks. Sat for 25 mins with empty plates waiting for desert order. What a shame as otherwise fantastic

We went away for a birthday treat and stayed 1 night in room 5. We were welcomed at arrival. The set up outside was very pretty. Lovely views. Once we got in our room well what can I say except beautiful! We were very impressed. The room was tastefully decorated. I was uncertain about booking after I read somewhere it was pet friendly but you wouldn't know if a pet had been in site. This must have been one of the nicest overnight stays I've had. It was lovely to have lots of space and your own outdoor space with nice views. We definatly plan to return in the future. We booked for an evening meal onsite. This was really tasty and very well presented. I had soup and pork and my other half had beetroot starter and cod. Breakfast also didn't disappoint we had continental and cooked breakfast choices. Staff were very friendly and the service was great. The village looked very pretty and we went for a nice walk at Sutton bank which had lovely views Thankyou for a pleasent and very enjoyable stay :)

Stumbled across this wonderful country pub en route to the North York Moors. We had a late lunch there and were fortunate to get a table it was so busy. My partner had a starter tomato and courgette soup served with crusty sourdough bread. For my main course I had cod loin with crab ravioli absolutely delicious and my parter had the homemade steak and ale pie. Dessert was a custard tart served with lemon and thyme ice cream. A superb meal. Friendly and attentive staff plus a glorious setting made it a memorable day.
