We did visited Cassowary House and took a day tour arranged by proprietors, Phil and Sue Gregory. Our guide was Jun Matsui, an extraordinarily talented birder and naturalist. He took my wife, son, and me to see rainforest species at Lake Barrine in the hills south of Cairns, shorebirds on the Esplanade, the cassowaries in Kuranda, and drylands species to... More

We saw our Cassowary and lots of other birds, too. Plus Musky-Rat Kangaroos and Pademelons. Sue's breakfasts are a treat. We were introduced to many new tropical fruits and we really enjoyed the atmosphere and Sue's company. The rooms are quite comfortable, although steps could be a problem for some. The immediate area here is great for birdwatching, and this... More

I stayed with a bird watching friend for several days at the Cassowary House and this included having our own birding guide to take us to several differant locations in the region. We used the Cassowary House as a base for our operations and this worked quite well. Sue makes a super breakfast and some fantastic dinners. We were able... More

We stayed in Cassowary House during July 2012, in the bush shack. The accommodation was of the standard that we expected. Not flash, but we were there to see the Cassowaries!! And we did! We were quite close to a couple of Cassowaries, and I do mean couple! My partner and I love nature and rain forests, so this suited... More

A surpisingly relaxing and special place to stay. So close to Cairns and yet feels so far away, up the winding mountain road, and just a 5 minute drive to Kuranda, it feels like you are in the middle of rainforest. The breakfast here is a real highlight, more fresh fruit and freshly baked (and beautiful tasting) bread and muffins... More

A great place to stay. Phil & Sue Gregory, who run the B&B as well as Sicklebill Safaris are very hospitable & welcoming. They have a vast knowledge of the birds, and can arrange tailormade tours for bird watching My husband & I engaged them for a 10 day private tour of Queensland, to search for endemic birds. We had... We stayed 2 nights here as a "belt and braces" approach to guarantee seeing cassowary at the end of a 11 night birding trip to Cairns, Daintree and the Atherton Tablelands area. It was a good job we did as we didn't see one anywhere else despite looking hard!! Although the standard of accommodation hadn't been foremost in our minds... More

Cassowary house is a family-run guest house smack in the middle of the tropical rainforest just a half hour or so from Cairns, on the edge of the Atherton Tablelands. Phil and Sue Gregory have invited guests into their home for more than 12 years, catering mostly to birders and people who want to enjoy the outdoors. Their greatest claim... More
