We stayed at the Vineyard Cottages to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary and had a great time. We were a little disappointed to drive up and see it nestled on the highway at Ballendean, but as it is set back far enough from the highway, we hardly heard any traffic at all. Once there though, the place is just fabulous. The grounds are beautifully manicured and are remisicent of an English cottage garden - lots of arches and cottage plants - quite unexpected! We had a cottage facing farmland and away from the highway and it was perfect. We sat on the little front verandah and watched the birdlife - which there was plenty of! The hosts were most welcoming and - a big surprise - the food could rival any restuarant in the major cities - and even outdo some! It was true restaurant cuisine, rather than country cooking. Our entree on the first night was a large homemade egg-filled raviloi pillow nestled on poached asparagus with crispy proscuitto and a burnt butter sauce. Yum... more
