Where do I start? Fawlty Towers this isn't but John Cleese would get some good material! I was given a room where the carpet was stained and dirty; the bedlinen didn't look fresh and the room was tired. The glass in the room was so dirty I washed it before I used it. Paint was peeling off the walls in... more

My friend and I stayed here for one night during a trip to this part of the country. Fantastic! The location is perfect for shopping, just a short walk into town centre. We planned on eating out , but decided on the hotel food, again, fantastic! Our room was just what we needed for one night and a resonable price... more

I've been staying with South Lodge Hotel for 4 nights. Comfortable rooms, very good location, great lounge/bar and the restaurant could not have been better. I will definitely be staying here on future business trips. more

My colleagues and I found ourselves at a last minute business meeting with no hotel arrangements! We did not know the area of Chelmsford v so took a chance and booked rooms with the South Lodge Hotel. We were extremely pleased we did! Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms spacious, clean and nicely decorated (executive rooms). The restaurant food was... more

This hotel is in a great location for visiting the town centre. The room was very nice, roomy and nicely decorated. Wanting to work from the bedroom I was slightly disappointed that the wifi system was very poor in the bedrooms but fine in the bar area. I didn't eat in the resturant but the breakfast was great although the... more

The check-in and restaurant staff were friendly. Other than that, it's all bad: tatty, dirty rooms that hadn't been vacuumed or dusted. Noisy, from guests returning to their rooms late at night, from the busy road, and from 6am delivery lorry. And at £85 for a room, not cheap either. more

Booked into this hotel as i had a very early start for work, was a bit of a last resort as a couple of others were fully booked, but the website looked nice. Turns out i had booked Fawlty Towers – I kid you not! My room was straight out of the 70’s with a Granada telly on legs that... more

Stopped here on business after booking from the website. The pictures and descriptions on the website are just plain misleading. This is a 1980's hotel which has slid downmarket and mainly caters for builders and contractors. The rooms were very tired, in an 80's style and very dated. The smallest, oldest TV I've ever seen. The bar at night was... more

After reading reviews on this hotel i was unsure what to expect. I was on here on a business trip and stayed for one night. The check in was simple and the staff very friendly. I stayed in a budget room, the room was satisfactory and had all amenities expected. The restraunt was a suprise, great food and service. Breakfast was... more

At the time, the website advertised luxurious rooms, dining and bar. When we actually arrived it turned out to be a swollen suburban Wimpy home. If you have booked this already DO NOT pay up front on arrival. Bar: unstaffed Room ("executive suite"): More like a disused show-home bedroom from the early 1980s; trouser press - a danger to both... more
