We stayed at the Alton House Hotel for 3 nights with 2 young children. Whilst the hotel itself seems like a fairly typical 3 star hotel, we did not feel like it represented good value for money. One of the main reasons is that you are charged extra for each child staying in your room, even though the room is... more

We stayed here for one night and were glad to leave. Instead of the Standard Room we had paid extra for what was described on their website as a Luxurious Double Bedded Room. The grubby appearance of the main entrance door, worn carpet and torn wallpaper on the stairs gave us a bad first impression. The room was dull and... more

This hotel has potential. The management need to recognise this and invest in refurbishment and staff training. This is the kind of hotel which is being relegated by the likes of Premier Inn. Staff are variable - some keen, others vague- no one explained that having ordered a morning paper that I would have to come to reception to collect... more

Stayed here for a wedding. Friendly staff and good service both at the wedding and for breakfast and dinner. Rooms were good, but a hairdryer in the room rather than having to ask would be a plus. Shower excellent. Good breakfast buffet and only small amounts put out at any one time, so nothing left to swim ingrease like some... more

Apart from the dining room which is reasonably smart the whole place could do with a makeover. Room was clean but uninspiring and we had noise from the main road most of the night. Breakfast was awful - help yourself to stewed tea or coffee and lukewarm food which despite our being early had obviously been sitting on a ?hot... more

I have stayed at the Alton House a few times now on business, and it's about time I wrote down my thoughts. The easiest way I find to describe to people what it is like, is to tell them it was probably fairly nice hotel.....in the 1970's. Since then, little has been done to it, apart from some new furniture... more

Where do I start??? My husband and I decided that the Alton house hotel would be a good base for our guests before and after our wedding at a nearby venue. We made a provisional booking for 35 rooms which ours guests called to book. At the same time I booked a room for my husband on the eve of... more

I stayed at this hotel with my partner as part of a group of people attending a 'murder mystery' evening on Saturday 3rd May in honour of a birthday. We arrived early and had a few drinks at the hotel bar. plesant enough serving staff - although they all very young and didn't really come across as very customer service... more

Often stay at the Alton House Hotel whilst on business. Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms clean but some of the older rooms could do with refurbishment. Even though the food in the hotel is fine, being on the outskirts of the town centre a five minute gives you more than enough choice of restaurants/pubs. more
